The tire will spin a bit before TRAC takes over... it isn't instant traction control like A-TRAC (which quickly brakes the spinning tire to the same traction level as the tire on solid ground).

I was thinking about doing this, but as you said, probably not the best way. I might just head up to the hills and find some off camber hill similar to your videos you posted.

Got it. I will find out and report back for the rest of the 2007-2008 4x4 OR owners.

    Thanks guys.

    Ready for more confusing fun?

Check out the 05 options list. The 2005 Tacoma has TRAC too (as an option).

They just don't have a switch.

So far, this thread has said only 2009+ 4x4 Tacomas can do the YWM.

The way I see it now, is that 2005+ 4x4 Tacomas equipped with TRAC can do the YWM. So long as the wiring is the same.

I have my '05 window sticker, it was an Off Road TRD 4WD... and there was no TRAC on mine. I waited a month for the truck I wanted to be available (silver DC Off Road 4WD)... so if others had TRAC, I don't know.

anyone else annoyed that Toyota labelled the switch and owner's manual "L4" but the light on the dash lights up "4Lo"?

I thought the Japanese were just as anal retentive as me and that's why I bought a Toyota... I have lost a little faith. Just a little. ;)

They probably saved millions of dollars by cutting the 'o' out in the manual.

    Just did some field testing.

TRAC is on in 4H and 4L on my truck.

    YWM not needed.

Now I need to figure out how to keep TRAC on when the locker is engaged.

If TRAC is on in L4 then someone already did a mod, because L4 has no traction control from the factory except for A-TRAC. Your rear locker only works in L4, (unless someone did the locker anytime mod already). This will be fun for you to test it all out!

Any excuse to play in the dirt is fun :D

All I know, is that when I put the truck in 4L, and press the VSC button until the swervy car light comes ON, I cannot make it up a local hill. (Pictured is the configuration. Note the swervy car and VSC OFF lights are on).

In the following configuration, when I put the truck in 4L, and leave the VSC button alone, I can make the hill, and I hear the brakes doing work as I climb right up effortlessly. (Pictured is the configuration. Note the servy car light is OFF and the VSC OFF light is ON.

I don't know if someone modified it before me or if it's factory. Being that I can switch TRAC on or off with the factory switch, I am inclined to say that this is factory from Toyota. I can also conclude that the servy car light is TRAC.

    Regardless, I am happy :D

It must be a 2005-2008 4X4 Off Road feature. Since we don't have ATRAC, we get TRAC in 4L.

If your 2007-2008 4X4 Off Road truck is equipped with TRAC, you are able to use TRAC in 4L from the factory.

I cannot speak for 2005-2008 4x4 trucks equipped with TRAC. We need more test dummies .

My last truck was a 2005 Off Road 4WD... it had no traction controls other than the rear locker. No VSC, no TRAC.

    Right.

    I will refine my post.

This is correct, it was an option at the time on the Off Road's.

I currently own my 2nd 2006 DCSB TRD OR 4WD, and it has optional package VE, which consists of: VSC, TRAC, HAC and DAC. My first one didn't have any of those options. As is known though, it doesn't have a VSC Off button.

As a side note, this one also has an airbag option that my first one didn't have, package OC: Curtain Airbags, Driver and Front Passenger Seat Side Airbags.

Does TRAC stay on when in you put it in 4L?

That is a great question, I don't know. I'll test it out today and see.

I have only had this truck for 2 weeks, and have only had it in 4WD once. I did go 4L locked for a couple minutes, but I didn't even think to look if TRAC stayed on.

Since my last Tacoma didn't have VSC or TRAC, I never really familiarized myself with it. I know exactly how the systems work, but never educated myself as to which systems were engaged/disengaged depending on drive mode.
