hi all, looking to keep this moldy old thread going...!

so, pretty much read this from front to back and just have one question...

I know many of you have done this mod, used and tested it for quite a few years (6 or so) now and swear by it. BUT, has anyone to date encountered any problems or heard of a reason NOT to do this mod? any ill effects or warranty issues etc?

    thanks!!

No problems here, and if you wanted to have traction control off in 4lo like the factory default, just press the traction control switch.
See my post of how I did the mod without cutting anything, I can return my truck back to factory original in minutes if I had to.

I think one reason you would want it on a switched contact is if your in a very slippery situation on a grade left or right leaning type, you might be crawling along in 4lo but don't want ABS trying to keep the wheels from locking up. When you hit the brakes you want all things to come to a stop.

I understand why Toyota chose to have the "electrical limited slip system" turned off when in 4lo for this reason. But I have done the mod and it helped me crawl up a snow covered driveway that a friends Subaru and Tundra wouldn't go up.

Ok, so i have a quick question to practice good 3 way communication. I have a 2015 SR5 package (to my knowledge, no form of special trac controls, other than the "Automatic Limited Slip Differential") I assume this is what everyone is referring to as "TRAC". If i perform the "yellow wire mod" then the only thing i am doing is allowing the LSD to be enabled in 4L. Now when the wire is cut, i can either do one of 2 things, install a switch that allows it to be turned on and off how i see fit, or i can cut the wire, and if i want it to be disabled, i hold the VCS button down for 3+ seconds and then its a open differential in the rear. Now when i cut the wire and "TRAC" is on in 4L, no matter what tire (front or back) if it detects slipping, the car will auto break the tire that is spinning out of control and turn the wheel that is not spinning. If someone could just respond with a YES or NO on this mentality i would greatly appreciate it. Sorry again if this is beating a dead horse.

Did it on my 2012 4 cyl SR5, works fine. Read the entire thread (or at least the first 5 pages and then skim the rest) before you do this mod to make sure your truck will benefit from it and to ensure you are cutting the correct wire.

I added a label to the glove box because I am a freaking nerd like that.

^ what he said. New member here, just did the YWM on my 2009 Access Cab 4x4 base. Looking forward to testing it out (and replacing the lame highway touring tires on the truck).

Trying to do this on my 2015, the yellow wire with the thin black lining looks as if it is in the first slot rather than in the second like mentioned in the previous posts. Anyways, i snipped the yellow wire with the thinner black line and it seems as if my 4lo in blinking when its in engaged BUT now the ABS light is turning on regardless of being in 2WD or 4WD n the TRAC off light is still on? Is this normal? My trucks a non-trd 4x4. Has anyone succesfully done this on a 2015 model? Any help would be appreciated.i ended up putting the wire back via electrical tape and the ABS light doesnt show up. Only had this truck for 5 months n dont wanna fck shit up.

ABS light shouldn't come on with this mod. Just the blinking 4lo. What color wire is in the second slot?
