    Hey guys,
Need your help. My wife and I bought a 21' ecopro travel trailer and need help in how to make the 4pin connector work with the 7 pin hookup on the camper. People are telling me conflicting information. The dealer wants to change us $1800 to make it work ( also with a friction brake installed) but that seems REALLY HIGH. My truck is a 2007 Tacoma SR5 forerunner V6 automatic 2 wheel drive crew cab. I live in flowery branch GA and if you know a good place to get the work done many thanks in advance.

A little something every chance we get.
I'm going to cheat, and give you some google...
What is the difference between a 4 and 7 pin trailer adapter?

    images_6bc292fcc53fa4b8f718cc821b51a7a35a315496.jpg

Four-pin trailer connections typically provide basic light functions only for the trailer, including running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. If you're using a seven-pin connection, you get all the same benefits but gain a 12-Volt circuit, an electric trailer brake circuit, and reverse lights.

Google 4pin truck to 7pin trailer adapters. Use Curt, Hopkins, or Reese as quality manufacturers. the extra wires on the adapter will allow you to wire in a brake controller if you desire.

    Good luck!

I think a key point noted above is that with the 4 pin on your truck you won't have trailer brakes using the adapter. You'll need an adapter with some extra wires to bring in a brake controller. The link below is an example where you'll see some additional wires -- which implies you'll want a brake controller as well, which I assume you'll want with a 21' trailer.

Oh, and this can be really stupid - but brands MATTER! Pin differences in mating and such. 4pin pretty much all the same except the housing, but look at the pins on your trailer pic, and my sample. Find a brand if you can on your trailer, and go for the match.

The dealer told me that in order to replace the 4pin with the 7pin adapter 7 wires had to be spliced in. How hard could that be ?

Famous last words. Have you checked your local U-haul? They do towing installs, I'm sure they could also handle a brake controller

We checked 3 Uhauls up here. They all said they don't do it. That's what the dealer said. Go to Uhaul. Lame.

Call eTrailer. My 2015 came with an OEM hitch and 4 pin wiring. I got everything I needed to install the 7 pin plug along with 4 pin and wire in a brake controller. It’s pretty straightforward.

the dealer is likely quoting you all of the TOYOTA OEM parts, wiring harness and such to add the electrical part of the tow package.
You will not have the higher amp alternator, not the transmission cooler if you have an automatic.

you may want to think about more than just wiring if you have an automatic and add an additional transmission cooler with a trailer that big.

This may be what your TACO has:
    upload_2023-5-24_21-50-47.jpg
It has combined turn & stop on left and right, tails circuit and ground.
You could remove the portion to the 4 pin connector and add an assembled 7 pin with matching connector to remainder of harness.
You would then need to add the 3 missing circuits:
    Battery Charging
    Electric Towing Brake
    Reverse

Missing circuits would be added to connector 90980-11461 which mates to -11460 then added wires and terminals to mate to 82824-34050.
Very doable with patience and proper tools.
