    It helps to buy from the same salesman over quite a few years and vehicles. But I am definitely done for a while.

    the problem is the diehards want big V8 power but they also want good MPGs and are too cheap to pay for the v8 s fuel consumption or have to deal with a Chevy,Dodge,Ford truck that has the worst quality and reliability than you will have with a Toyota. the diehards want everything their way but in reality mid sized trucks are built for efficiency and adequate power to get the job done.

    Max hp/torque numbers don't mean squat if you don't have a dyno sheet. I want solid torque at 2k RPM. From the charts I've run across, the 4.0 has slightly more at 2k but not much. The torque curves are otherwise pretty similar. The 3.5 makes a lot more hp but the max is measured at almost redline, a place I'll never go.

    None of the above is scientific, obviously. These tests need to be done on the same day on the same engine dyno. Don't forget that drivetrain has a huge impact.
