I just saw this one on marketplace and it has the same weird line so idk apparently toyota just threw a bunch of parts in boxes and then threw these engines together and said good luck later hahaScreenshot_20250819_193745_Facebook.jpg

The base engine is all the same you may have to swap around some accessories. But, that’s pretty much on any engine swap that the donor engine is not from the same year and model.

Scrap the truck because of the engine swap? Or there’s other stuff wrong with it?

Is it the double cab in your avatar? How much do you want for it?

Yep thats it. If you knew what all has went down youd want to take a baseball bat to it too and the bad part is none of it is the trucks fault. This would be the 4th time the engine has been swapped. Spent alot to have the original rebuild done. Got it back ran horrible still, did a compression test and every cylinder was exactly the same. Made them re do it, got it back water pump leaked like crazy and head gasket was leaking coolant into a cylinder, pulled it again and sent it off to a new place after throwing away 7k. Was supposed to be done now found out it still is over a month out. Needed the truck for sept 1st when hunting season starts so told them cancel it. Im so sick of getting screwed by businesses and everything I do with my trucks. Problem is it's not just this im going through the same thing with my diesel right now to having to get the same thing re done after 3 months. If I had unlimited money id whistlindiesel every truck I own right now.

So now im so gun shy to spend money on anything for it because nothing has went right that i talk myself out of doing anything to it because I don't trust anyone anymore. It sucks the trucks in good shape other wise, its definitely used but the frames in good shape and everything else is working good but I cant keep throwing thousands away on a truck that isnt worth it.

I hear ya, there are very few shops, contractors, etc, that I trust to do anything right. Why I end up doing everything I want done myself, for better or for worse.

I’m sure the truck is worth something to someone who wants to put the time in to get it fixed up. What’s it worth to you to not have to deal with anymore?

But make a offer if you want then I can decide if its worth getting rid of or keeping. Has newer jba upper control arms, old man emu lift with new leaf pack, big brake kit, arb bumper, smitty built winch (i probably would keep the winch for whatever I replace this truck with) a new set of toytec 2.0 struts would go with it and a bunch of just random new parts.

Sorry to hear the headache you've been through with this thing, but I'd still pursue the used engine route, even if you later sell the truck. Selling it not running is only going to dig the money pit deeper.

A friend of mine blew a headgasket on his '98 Tacoma (V6, MT, TRD) last fall. I pulled a $400 motor out of a pick and pull yard the next day for him. 2 weeks later, and maybe another $1000 in ancillary costs (clutch kit, timing belt kit, valve covers, plugs, plug tube seals, plug wires, etc), and he was back on the road with a motor that had about 170k miles (per Carfax report run on the junkyard truck), and runs like a Swiss watch.
