    Hi Everyone,

We're a little late to the party ( due to vacation schedules, covid, holidays, etc. ), but @Silverlogic and I are once again co-hosting the Red Canyon "Jeep" Trail Run. It is 2WD friendly and a mid-May run on Saturday, May 14th will make it just in the nick of time to beat the heart of the summer heat.

The 1st year, we had 12 rigs and one misc Nissan.
The 2nd year, we had 19 rigs and one lifted ballsy Subaru Forrester.
The 3rd year, we had 23 rigs show up for the hill climb.

Once again, will meet near the trail-head at the General Patton Memorial Museum at Chirico Summit at 9:30am, hoping to push off by 10:00-10:30. There is a Chevron there, so you can top off on fuel before hitting the trail. If you want to check out the Patton Museum, get there early.

    When: Saturday, May 14th
    Time: 9:30am
Where: 62510 Chiriaco Rd, Indio, CA 92201 ( General Patton Memorial Museum )
    HAM Frequency: 146.460

From there, we will cross I-10 to Pinto Rd, to the tail-head, air down for anyone that wants to, and then @Silverlogic will lead the way for the railroad trestle. The distance from the trail-head to the Eagle Mountain Railroad Trestle is approximately 19.2 miles ( 13.2 miles officially on the Red Canyon Jeep Trail ) and takes about 1.5 - 2.5 hours to get to the trestle. We should be there with the sun high on the Western side of the trestle which should make for some good photo opportunities. I'll have my DSLR and will advance up the hill on foot to capture action shots of everyone climbing the hill. When we reach the trestle, that will be the best break for lunch.

When we're finished at the trestle, @Silverlogic will continue the lead the way out. Each year, he tries to plan a different outbound route so that different areas can be explored which can be, um, interesting. We've diverted around log jams in dry creek beds, straddled old rail road tracks, traversed various railroad de-construction areas, and paralleled the infamous California aqueduct. You can even venture to the old abandoned resort beaches and buildings of the Salton Sea if you can tolerate the smell.

    Here is information from TraillsOffRoad.com

    SR2013 - Red Canyon Trail
    Rated: 2-3 ( easy )
The Orocopia Mountains Wilderness Area was once home to one of the largest military bases in the world, while today it is home to some of the most beautiful scenery that Southern California has to offer, including the Red Canyon. The Red Canyon Trail takes you through this wilderness area bobbing and weaving its way through the desert and up and over the mountains to where the Red Canyon resides. This splendid trail is perfect for people new to off-roading up to the most experienced 4x4 enthusiast. Because of the ample amount of wilderness and BLM land, this trail is a great start to exploring the area, or just to get away for a weekend. Thus the next time you are near Palm Springs or the Salton Sea, think about checking out Red Canyon.

    Is there camping available?
Yes, there is camping available virtually anywhere you can find it that won't get you into trouble, so choose wisely. There are signs near the end of the trail stating that you can camp within 100 yards of the main trail. Some folks have camped in the area that Friday night then met at the museum while others have chosen to camp Saturday night in the vicinity of the Eagle Mountain Railroad Trestle and explored their own way out.

    ** Interested in Camping Overnight

I'll likely be camping with my wife this year. We're planning to run down the Bradshaw trail the second day and stop for some geode prospecting.

I'm still happy to escort anyone not camping out.

Tentative for me as well. I’ve been wanting to run this again. If I go, I will camp. Had a great time at the 2nd anniversary run.

Definitely interested but will check with the wife. Lol. Quick question, can a bare-bones stock TRD Off-Road 4x4 make it?

Absolutely. Your truck is very capable of handling this run even being stock. @Norsemanvike mentioned in the OP that these trails are 2WD friendly.
