My old XRC8 winch had the gen1 cheap syn line from trail gear on it and it always looked haggard and flat and melted. When I rebuilt the gearbox i saw that the arm connecting the gearbox to the motor rode on a metal bushing with a layer of grease in the middle of the drum, and spun VERY fast. It seemed like a full re-spool of the drum would end up making that thing just melt the drum, but i guess it works? My drum would definitely get warm when spooling much cable in or out.

My winch is a super cheap one from eBay and it has worked flawlessly multiple times. Wireless remote works great too.

Yeah thats one downside to the synthetic. But if they snap you can resplice haha. Mine definitely was pressed into an odd shape but it is starting to look like normal again haha

I fear the same thing when respooling, and warn says specifically to run it in 30 sec bursts when respooling to avoid overheating the drum and melting the line. I still would rather worry about that then a metal wire possibly snapping.

Yep thats what scared me, but its totally fine. It will live to pull another day. I also have a back up 50ft line that I can use if it melts in a bad spot.

Just sent a Mrs.BLKTRUCK a request. A few reasons I don’t post pics or vids on here: 1. They get lost in the threads. 2. Upload limit.

I took some videos but editing sucks..!! they’ll be up on my iG account(@DNGRCLS) whenever I’m done sorting them out.. I’m sure I have more offroad footage on the dashcam but f*k that, I don’t feel like watching it all. Lol

That aerial footage you posted is awesome. Do you have any of the campsite.

Was that you with the drone when we were taking the group picture?

Don't forget some of us don't have social media and we can only see them here.

Sorry that wasn’t me, it was someone with a DJI phantom. I do have a couple aerial footage flying over the camp tho. I’ll post em as soon as I can. Still learning how to control the camera while operating the drone. So nothing interesting, really.

Here’s a quick vid for now. did this one with my phone and it looks grainy AF.. Have not had a chance to upload in HiDef..

It also doubles the load on the anchor point. Just something to keep in mind when if the anchor is a small tree or small rock.

It also halves your movement for the same winch speed, so if the heat is from the motor/gearbox load, it would help, but if it's from the bushings/bearings supporting the connecting shaft between them, it would increase your heat load by having to run your winch longer to move the same distance.

Good to know, and glad we used one. It was the first time I actually used it. I knew it lessoned the load on the winch but didnt think about keeping the heat down too. Might not be leaving it in the recovery bag as often. Initially we used the snatch block so I could get an angle on the first truck since I was behind him it was the only way to get him through the gatekeeper at that point. Then used it for my truck as well. Those things work like a charm.

edit: Nor did I think about less amperage or wear on my alternator and battery! Thanks for the knowledge!

All good stuff, I forgot how much the speed drops when you really load it up.

I was flying my drone for a wee bit Sunday morning if that’s what you are referring too. Didn’t shoot much, just a few aerial shots of site 27, I’ll post a few shots later if worth while
