I went to the car wash... the guys noticed the mud on the truck. They cleaned it off with pressure washer before my truck got pulled into the car wash. They didn't kick me out. Good people.

Some car wash places have undercarriage wash. Google it and see you have one near you.

:gossip: it's not really clean underneath though. Guarantee that! There will mud and gravel in your frame rails for life. It'll hide on top of the gas tank and in between wire loom forever.

    So.....

Is it possible to bend a steering rack without bending a tie rod (inner or outer)?

I just took off inner & outer tie rods from both sides in preparation of changing to 555s. I was turning the wheel to extend the rack so I could access the inners and I noticed some stiffness. With the truck running and no tie rods connected there's a definite resistance when turning the wheel. That resistance lasts about 1/2 turn, then it gets smooth for 1/2 turn, then the resistance comes back. etc.

    I don't think that's normal.

Could just be pump resistance. Look over all the seals, fittings, lines, and peek at the rag joints. One under the dash and one at the rack I believe. Check the intermediate shaft joints too

The resistance is there with or without the truck on.

Fluid level looks good. Currently at the cold minimum line.

No obstructions on any of the joints.

The only thing I noticed is that there's some fluid on the driver's side by the teeth. If I wipe it off turn the wheel so it goes in, then extend it again. There's more fluid.

    Is that normal?20200912_120955.jpg
