I have the oem running boards and they work great against most "cars". Of corse trucks and suvs are the exception. But as far as cars, My wife has a 2011 Honda Accord and the first time I parked in the gargage I was afraid of the door dings starting in my own garage. (my garage is kinda tight) But with a first test, I realized there is no way she can hit the truck. Of corse the down side is, the rails will tear the $h*t out of her door if hit. I feel much better now, If I could just get some more meat under the truck and maybe a lift, then the trucks and suv's would have a harder time dinging it up. ;)

Parents-don't let your children operate doors before they're ready. I've seen it enough.

Man I hadn't even had my 2010 six weeks before my first door ding :(. I work as a meat cutter at a grocer store so everyday is an adventure to find the right parking space...if it's not cars it's rouge shopping carts.

Rising CAFE standards lead to thinner and thinner sheet metal...meh, it's a truck anyway.

I drive my wife freakin' crazy parking away from other people:D. I try to park at the end of the row in a parking lot, preferably next to a concrete planter. I back in, and adjust my mirror to get as close to the concrete as possible. Works well, so far no dings. Dual advantage, pt opportunity (exercise to you civilians). I feel your pain, people, I feel your pain.:frusty:

Just get a set of running boards or sliders, and dont park next to other vehicles with higher door sills than you...works like a charm for me

I have OEM running boards on my truck. They have a little adjustment on them, I pulled mine out as far as I could. They protect against most vehicles. I've actually had people open their door and hit the running board while I was sitting in the truck before.

Yeah, 6 months and my front driver side fender has a big gouge in the front and a dent on top. Neither by me. And I park very carefully. WTF!! :(

At this rate, I might as well wait for it to collect a few more dings before going to the body shop.

... or just leave it.

my doors dont attract dents for some reason, but my bumper and tailgate sure do
(tailgate attracts trailers and the bumper attracts posts in my blind spots)

I only get hit in my own garage; everywhere else I can park far away. I am thinking of getting some body side molding to block my wife and kids from throwing her doors into mine.

They are not realy dings but a "roughness on paint" might be able to rub out once warmer out.

Are your boards the black OEMs. I didnt think they came out enough to help??, but if there is a adjustment I may reconsider.

I bought a truck not to have to worry about this stuff anymore. I had black cars before and obsessed about parking miles away. Now with the combination of silver and a truck I park where I want, shop and sleep comfortably. The step bar defends against cars. but not other higher vehicles. I don't view trucks in the same way as a car. It is allowed to look a little used.

Besides thinner metal means dings can be easily repaired when I am ready to sell.

I hate people. The parking lot where I work is full. Full, full, full. If I want my rig parked by itself I have to hike 20 minutes, which I'm not gonna do when I'm working 12-14 hour days. Less than three weeks old and some asshole dings my driver's side just in front of the rear wheel well. My rig's not gonna be a garage queen, but give me a break!

ETA: At least I ordered my steps and light bar yesterday, the sooner they get here the better.

4 damaged areas on my truck in 6 weeks from shopping carts. I figure by this time next year the insuranc company will "total" it.

yup no door dings on mine :) but I have witnessed a mid 90's model Chevy slam his door into the .187" DOM tubing and get a very nice dent on the edge of his door was a priceless moment..

They definitely do. They stick out about an inch farther than the widest part of the door. They won't protect you from a door that's severely undercut (like lots of rear doors of 4-door cars are) but they work to protect you from many car/van doors.
