I’m thinking of buying this to prevent the unwelcome from happening.

Who else is buying this prophylactically?

Why? So many folks now have taken these off road and this just isn't a big issue and happening all over the place. As a matter of fact not one person has posted the issue on here or another 4G forum since the first YTers did it. Based on the lack of this actually being an issue I would almost think Icon did it on purpose to sell a bunch of these to all the chicken littles out there.

This piece. I think it’s a “cheap” prevention to tophat failure. I am wondering how many of TW 2024 community is doing it. Thanks

If it works like Icon says then its cheep enough insurance to be worth it. If your planning on lifting it just go ahead and get better longer shocks.

Nobody wants a prolapsed shock that is probably back ordered.

I'm not taking mine offroad until I've got it fully armored.

Once I do this Icon piece is on the list if they dont have the TRD lift kit released yet.

I installed them on mine. Quick and easy install

this video from Icon was pretty informative. I know this isnt an issue on the Trailhunter as they have a different setup. Mine is an Off Road Model

    As stated above, cheap insurance

Hopefully someone will come up with a bumpstop kit for these. An external bumpstop. That way if you want to send it off road, don't have to rely on the little shock to hold up thousands of pounds of downforce.

Will this solution keep them from cracking and falling apart? I think it just keeps them from blowing thru the top.

I think Toyota has already fixed the issue.

I didn't see a change on my Off Road I picked up in July the day after it was delivered from the factory. Maybe there is something I can't see, but it looked the same from the top as the one that failed.

By pressing those components against the steel plate, they have no room to move which is what caused them to break.

    Cheap insurance for me.

The only thing I see in this design is that unless the fitment is absolutely 100% with no gaps at all it wouldn't work. I shouldn't say it wouldn't work, maybe if shouldn't say it wouldn't prevent it from cracking. What would be better is if that part that failed was incorporated with the plate they are making as 1 piece, then I would be more assured. Off course I don't have it to assess more thoroughly but that's my mechanical engineering hat speaking.

I am an engineer and appreciate the design. The 4 bolts tie it snug against the collar leaving no room for slippage. If there was a gap, like you said it would not work.. I noticed the fit when I installed it.

This was a lot of huff and puff when it first happened, but if the broken shock mounts were a thing, wouldn't there be a lot more people griping about it? I haven't heard really any complaints or seen threads about this since the very early models.

Toyota jumps on every trending malfunction, just like the initial grill shutter issue, and they fix it.

I've heard of three such failures. Maybe there are another six or ten that didn't make social media, but nothing for well over a month.

I bought a set… Definitely an overblown problem!

At the time there was no aftermarket shocks available and the closest Toyota dealership is 110 miles away.

First Icon product I've seen worth actually buying. If I had a 4g I'd def pick them up for peace of mind. Granted it doesn't fix the issue but if it happens you can drive home a lot easier.
