The young kids buy them because they think they are cool looking and make more noise

Do these air intakes really help with gas and power?

Feel the same way.. I have been a motor head all my life still love to watch all the racing but in my life now most of that stuff is left out.. I’m 67 and a whole lot smarter but a lot slower in getting things done..still love my Toyotas and my big block chevys

On my 2024 Civic (and my 2017 civic) the intake makes a huge difference in turbo noises. Loud "swoosh" when letting off the throttle under load. Without a tune though, HP gains are likely negligible. Also the engine is more likely to heat soak with a short ram intake like that and will make LESS power than stock when the computer pulls timing to compensate for the hot ass air coming in.

What a coincident, I'll be turning 67 next month, luv my Toyo (had 4 of them) and big block chevy's. Use to race my buddies '69 Chevelle SS (396/325hp, stock, he was a tad apprehensive behind the wheel) on the great highway in San Fransisco (the old city not the new one). Smoked a lot of tires. I had 70 AMX and several others (missed them all and wish I would have kept them) but that's another thread...

I still have a 67 chevelle with a 430 hp 350 ci standard bore that is nuts and a 72 c-10 with a 504 big block with 550 hp and 690 torque. And guess what they both have hot air intakes

I get it, but you would do yourself and the motor a favor, if you get them out of the engine compartment, imho... But again, you're the owner and cudos of your stable...

Guess what, small displacement turbo engines heat soak much easier than your big block motors. Plus the computers on modern cars will pull timing aggressively factoring in heat, IAT, octane, etc.

Absolutely correct. I see nothing wrong with a pleated paper air filter.

Agree - Please do not use these oiled air filters. For the marginal gain you get, it's not worth the long term headaches and cost in my opinion. If you want sound screw with the exhaust.

The true Cowl/Ram air induction is the vehicle painted blue, cold air is fed through the hood vents and air intake is surrounded by a dense foam rubber seal.
