Waste of money that will shorten the life of the engine. The L4 engine gives plenty of power stock from the factory

Is the noise worth damaging the engine?

i had K&N and AFE on all my Tacomas with no problems. 100,000 miles. If you keep up with filter cleanings and don’t over oil the filter the engine will be happy.

Watch the Project Farm test video I posted above, and you'll probably stop running K&Ns. I use them in cabin filters and that's it.

The K&N filter had the best 0-60 time than all of the other filters in the video. I don’t put flour in my airbox so i’m not worried about that. I guess in this forum most people are not interested in performance they are just scared about damaging their engines. And they don’t like turbo noises hahahaha.

In ALL forums you have this. The performance, modding etc guys and then the group of Chicken Littles that the sky is falling and your warranty is void and you are going to blow up your engine type.

YOU bought your truck. Do whatever the hell you want to it. Keep it stock or mod the hell out of it. People telling people what they should and should not do to THEIR vehicle is a futile argument. Like politics, you aren't going to change their mind no matter what you say.

    So will removing the filter.

But have at it. This may be a good option if you're leasing.

Not on a Tacoma, but I've had K&N intakes and aFe intakes on other cars. The aFe ones all seemed better constructed; nice, powder coated box and machined aluminum rings, with stainless steel button-head fasteners. The K&N was blow-molded plastic with mold marks that kind of looked like the boxes tools come in that immediately go in the recycle bin as soon you make space in the tool chest. Plus, aFe offers a washable dry filter instead of the oiled mess. My old BMW had an aFe intake with an oiled filter on it when I bought it. I switched to a dry one as soon as I found out they sold one. Same sound, less dirt sneaking through and depositing in the intake tract (and worse!) and I don't have to clean my MAF so often. Plus, the filter oil that inevitable drips off has made the coolant hose that runs under the airbox less than happy. I really need to replace that hose...

If you're going to throw money at it just to get more turbski noises — which I absolutely support if you can swing it and don't mind Toyota looking down their nose at you come warranty time — I'd suggest the aFe over the K&N.

Why not get programmed noise through the head unit?
