My guess is they are Toyota press cars for the media to test drive and show off. Coincidentally they are photographed and released to the public via sm.

I'd like to see what's pulling that trailer. Ram, Ford, or GM HD.

Seems like it was the new tundra capstone to be precise.

I'm going to have to see that to believe it. How did they not get a photo of the Capstone pulling the 4G. There's goingvto be at least 15 years to see pictures of the 4G. There will probably never be another opportunity to see a Capstone pulling a 4G Tacoma on an aluminum trailer.

Toyota should also incorporate a scene light in the side of the cab spoiler.

Just browsing, came across this. That's my video! Thanks for sharing it!

I am hoping to get some more questions answered soon, Overland Expo PNW wasn't as informative of an event as West was. They only had a 2wd at the Overland Expo PNW.... weird. I am really hoping the Mountain West show has a production ready model, or at least more info released by then. Let me know any questions you guys have, there a chance I will get to speak/listen to another engineer before too long.

Also the channel Tinkerers Adventure got to see that Bronze TRD OR up close and personal a few days ago and take a bunch of measurements. As far as technical informative videos go, he's the man. He told me it will be around 3 weeks before he can get the video out, but it will for sure be one of the most informative videos to date for anyone interested in wheeling these things.

Listening to the engineers speak at Overland Expo West, I thought they said it was just 7 screws to replace. They knew it was a BS thing, so they made it very simple to remove. I doubt it will take even 10 minutes. Maybe 1 with an electric tool. It was designed to be thrown away IMO.

Basically they HAVE to jump through hoops. Party because of the EPA, but I also think Toyota Japan has certain requirements for them to work around. Like the Chevy can get a factory front bumper and winch but probably wont test the best in an impact. Toyota doesn't want a bad safety score card. They aren't willing to do that, so to meet requirements they have to do some goofy stuff. I think that's why the Trailhunter doesn't have a front steel bumper. It passed tests ahead of time with front plastics, so now the dealers can put it on after the fact as a loop hole of sorts. At least that's my assumption. There will for sure be an ARB bumper ready at launch. I am quite confident of that, and your dealership will be happy to sell it to you.

Same for tires. Toyota sells these trucks with crap tires typically and from what I have been told, its so journalists don't immediately say "wow this thing is loud". They do what they have to do to get the best first impression. Kind of silly, but that's how they do things.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Yes, Toyota has to have a front face to appease feds. Can't have a steel front bumper and then claim to be pedestrian safety conscious. So we get the plastic one instead. And on and on. I think most people understand.

Your Gaia GPS/Onyx Offroad/TrailsOffroad video was outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone. It clarified some things for me.

Glad it was helpful, though definitely a bit dense! I plan to do an updated video on these this fall, as it seems like Gaia has sort of gone MIA, Trails Off-Road is growing and has improved but I have to say OnX has corrected a lot of my gripes and has grown on me a bit. I still use them all, but new features make a big difference.

Avenza is the only one that the government officially recognizes and uses. We do a lot of trail maintenance, and apply for grant money, they won’t accept the paperwork if you use other apps. Was told that it is updated by Washington first and the others follow suit.

OnX has great marketing and that is about it. So much wrong with it, not even sure where to start. Those others are fine for plunking around for the Average Joe YouTube influencer, but if you are in a club/organization that works with government agencies such as BLM, USFS, etc… Avenza is it.

Awesome to hear, I have heard of the app but never knew its uses for off road use. I will check it out to potentially compare to the others in my follow up video. The vast majority of viewers are probably looking at the "big 3", and dont need much beyond them but I am always interested to try new stuff.

I use Avenza to navigate drivable forest roads on WMAs, but haven’t found any satellite view maps that I can use to plan routes off trail. It works great to show me where I am on the WMA brochure map, but doesn’t do much beyond that. Just now I searched again for a popular WMA near me and no satellite view maps at all.

I use Topos/MVUM and have to upload your own maps, as satellite isn’t the best for telling elevation. Use it mainly for single track, so when we are doing maintenance, such as clearing down trees, rebuilding water bars, washouts etc, we have to drop a pin where the work was done, then turn that in with another form, the USFS will only recognize Avenza coordinates.

Personally I like Gaia, but have to use Avenza for trail work.

Ya. Avenza interface prioritizes detail over usability.

When I am going up a road, I just want to know if that entrance to this side dirt road will lead to something interesting/allowable. And I want it fast. I don't need to be bogged down in details or clumsiness. Onyx seems to strike that balance. Don't care if they pay influencers, isn't geeky enough, or whatever. It just works for me.
