My casual curiosity and eagerness to know about the truck up close and in person sooner than later, has nothing to do with my own budget for a recent purchase I made. I know better than to expect it to be below $40k when a basic 2023 TRD OffR costs $40k, so I’m surprised you’d need to point it out like I’m expecting it to be that cheap for a turbo hybrid in midspec.

In fact, I don’t know why that question was asked to me in the first place by Steven, as it felt like a litmus test was incoming on rights-to-comment in certain subforums.

Anyone commenting in this thread, doesn’t have to have the cash in hand and more to buy the most loaded 4th gen in order to comment on annoyance from observations.

My budget is based on my plans for other stuff and I didn’t love a 3rd gen enough to pay mark up on a 2023 manual, when I want another vehicle next year.

The Grand Highlander with the similar 2.4 turbo to the Taco, doesn’t use an E-CVT, but a 6 speed auto. That what separates it from most hybrids.

Although the hybrid is setup differently on that west-east layout than these north-south trucks with an 8 or 10 speed.

Toyota easily could’ve made other turbo hybrid buyers wait several months, but they sent them out at the time anyway.

I can be annoyed regardless of my ideal stingy budget, if I feel Toyota being is selective with releasing regular and hybrid versions at the same time on other models, while spacing out hybrid releases on models like these.

Someone mentioned a long time ago, these Tacoma hybrids were going to be spring 2024 releases way before I ever saw that electric truck concept a few years ago. It happened with the Tundra too 2 years ago, so it sounds deliberate compared to other Toyotas.

Hybrid only Sequoia doesn’t seem affected by it and neither does the new Land Cruiser, which has other engines releasing at the same time, gas or carryover diesel overseas. Toyota’s concerted practice of releasing hybrids many months after gas versions seems to be limited to pickups and nothing else. That’s my point and suppliers having issues seems more last minute than planned years ahead.

I stand corrected, they are body-mounted rock rails (as opposed to the Trail Hunter's frame-mounted sliders) and do not deploy when the door is open:

Looks like power running boards will be limited to the Limited:

yes, body mounted are sufficient for 99% of people. If like other manufacturers, they’ll support more than the weight of the vehicle.

^We'll find out. I'm sure someone will put a hi-lift underneath the rock rails to see!

I saw a video of those power boards on an OR i believe. May have been a TH though, but it was not a Limited for sure.

Interesting if it's optional at a certain trim level and above. But if someone actually off-roads and has them, I don't think they'd last long.

I'm sure they'd be standard on the Limited, but I am guessing either they can be optional on other models, or added after the fact.

Other than wiring and switches, I can't imagine there is much if anything unique about these powered steps. No way they last as a slider lol. This is strictly a city truck mod.

My guess the I-Force Max will have bigger brakes to justify the 18s, just a guess though.

But yeah, halo off-road vehicles really don’t get used to their full potential, bunch of Pros, Raptors and TRXs running around here that rarely have a spec a dirt on the undercarriage. My truck has more dirt on it, and only run it down dirt roads nothing hardcore.

Think halo vehicles are kinda dumb, but guess manufacturers needs a showcase vehicle to see how much bullshit you can put on it. Thought I was a bare bones kinda guy, but think I am now more of a SR5 buyer, not too-too basic, and not too-too over the top, just riiiiiiight.

Used to be into wheeling my truck, but got tired of fixing shit into the wee hours of the morning so I could commute to work the next day. Or really break it and have it down for weeks, then I was riding my bicycle or hitching ride to work. Why I rather do the dirt bike/mountain bike/hike thing instead, just need a truck to get to the trail head. All three of those things can get you in deeper into the backcountry than a truck can.

I doubt that. The Pros this past gen had 17s while the Offroads had 16s. Same brakes.

Toyota's idea of a "halo" vehicle is a joke imo; if you could even call the Pro line a halo vehicle. A lot of show and no go.

The 3rd gen Pro from a performance standpoint only had nicer shocks and a decent skid plate vs the TRD Offroad. And I guess an optional "desert air intake". They couldn't even bother to put some disc brakes on the rear.

Yeah just a guess. Since the I-Force Max is laying down some good numbers, wondered if they would size up the rotors, perhaps off the Tundra?

3rd Gen Pro is indeed a joke. Kinda lame they didn’t do extended a-arms on the 4th, and got the extra trackwidth with wheel offset.

Love my SR, has more than enough options for me. Only wish it had a power/heated/cooled seats option.

Quite unfortunate they killed the Access Cab, get slightly irritated when I see the Xtra Cab. Have been looking for Sheldon Brown’s contact information so I can pen him a sternly written letter of my dismay. Lol!

I may be a little lost in this but are you saying your TRD OR Taco came with 17's from the factory? I have owned 2 of them and both came with 16's. Disregard if I'm totally lost on this one....its been hard to keep up...lol
