Are we back to 3000 miles to give the turbos max protection and long life?

Just follow whatever the manual says. Why would anyone do otherwise?

I'm surprised the inevitable oil thread took this long to show up.

Before you answer the poll . . . ask yourself do you want your truck to be trouble free for 100k miles or maybe 2-300k? Are you leasing it and will dump it before anything wears out?

The speed, heat, and close tolerances of turbos just compound the stress on lubricants already furnished by the current crop of direct injection and slack oil ring motors. The oil, as good as the new synthetics, are forced to suspend a lot of crap - soot, dust, and raw fuel as it circulates. The additives are very good, but it still doesn't beat relatively clean oil. Any of the Warren development synthetic oils from Costco, Amazon or Walmart are cheap and excellent. You can do an oil change, with oem filter, for 25 bucks.

3rd Gen Tacoma manual says 10K. Car care nut says most don’t qualify under those conditions. He says 5K no matter what. Should we listen to a Toyota master tech or someone on here……

Toyota hasn't changed the oil change interval recommendation down from 10,000 miles on other T24A-FTS equipped vehicles like the Crown or Highlander (as well as the twin turbo in the Tundra/Sequoia), so I expect the Tacoma will have the same official recommendation and should use 0W-20 oil. Other recent engines are now using 0W-8, but the turbocharged engines are still using 0W-20.
