Historically the first-year wheels on 2nd and 3rd gens were all lame. By the mid-cycle refresh the more interesting wheels appeared. For 2nd gens it was the TRD fake beadlocks. For 3rd gens it was the 2020+ TRD Pro wheels.

Be nice if that machined edge fad would die off, but doesn’t look like it will anytime real soon.

It reminds me of these that were popular in the 80s.

If you get a measurement of the hub bore it may be similar / same as Chevy’s 6x5.5 wheel hub size. It may be possible to get a Chevy wheel spacer or use one with a hub ring if the Chevy is smaller.

It was sadly just one set of wheels. And they were only around for two model years before the last set of TRD Pro wheels which IMO are a step backwards. I just can't believe they let the TRD OR go that long without updating the wheel design for 3rd Gens.
Agreed... All of them are lame. The TRD Pro looks the best but its just generic black. The Trail Hunter isn't really all that great either. The currently available ones (especially the TRD OR) are hideous.

Silverados have 78.1mm center bore and typically +24mm offset. Hubcentric wheel spacer intended for Silverados wont fit over a 3rd gen Tacoma hub.

Good point - I was thinking an adapter spacer but yeah a regular old spacer won't fit over it unless you machine out the ID just enough to clear the hub on the spindle / drum.

That would normally be a duct on race or high performance cars for cooling brakes but on Toyotas it’s a fake vent that adds sales performance the same way their hood scoops influence trim package upgrades lol.

Unfortunately Toyota typically doesn't change the truck wheels that much. If memory serves (and I'm only focusing on alloy wheels here).

1984-1988 had two sets of alloy wheels.
1989-1995 used the 1986-1988 style alloy wheels
The 1G Tacoma only had two sets of alloy wheels (yes, the size changed, but the design was the same)
The 2G Tacoma had one set of wheels per trim. Sports were shared with the 4Runner and the OR was unique.
The 3G Tacoma had one set for the TRD OR, two for the TRD Sport. The steel wheels carried over from the 2G.

I always thought the 3G OR wheels aged pretty well, especially compared to the 2G OR wheels.

I thnk the 3rd gen wheels look particularly good on older trucks for some reason. I'm not crazy about the sport wheels on current model years, but I like them on my 3rd gen 4runner and am thinking about trading them off of my 2nd gen for the trail teams that are currently on my 4runner.

Yeah the 2G OR wheels are def products of their time. I do think its funny that the Pro got three sets of wheel designs and none of them were 17s

So, I have a 2008 prerunner that I just bought my son and picked up these wheels yesterday for $300 with less than 500 miles on the tires. From what I am understanding is either I can not use these at all or I will need a spacer of some width that also converts to a 14 mm lug nut. Also, I cannot use the factory lug nuts for the mounting of the spacer, correct? Thanks in advance as I am new to the Tacoma world.

Why? All 4th gen OEM wheels are ugly.

Because they were $300, and he needed 3 new tires, and this is his 1st vehicle at 16 y/o and he is limited on funds. Oh, and he likes the look. That's why. Are you able to answer my question?
My 1st impression of this forum is not very good based off the response.

Eh, I'd just swap the tires and sell the wheels - not worth looking for something that may not even exist and even if it does may not work to clear the brake caliper. Not a big market for adapting these wheels for said reason.
