Agreed. Here's my current mindset and reason for indecisiveness.

    1) my 3rd gen is paid off and vested in (Volk's, level, PPF, ceramic coat, etc.)
    2) buying the 4th gen with a signed trade offer and MSRP is about the same as a discounted one later down the road ($38k trade in and KBB puts it around $35k right now), with tax credit and all I'm looking at about $16k to upgrade
    3) buying 4th gen maybe a regret seeing the issues early Tundras had and build quality as no one has actually sat in one yet or seen it
    4) still think a full size makes more sense for family trips, loading up bikes, comfort but dont care for the current options and like parking in the garage and not an ideal DD

Guess the indecisiveness allows me not to make a rash decision. But ya I'm bad about it, residual from my TBI and anxiety.

    1. The best truck is the one that is paid for.
    2. Not too too bad, still always cheaper to keep what you have.
    3. Yep, for me at least need a couple years to see teething issues, the 3rd Gen had its share.
    4. It does, I battle the needs vs wants in my head and on here way too often. Could really use a full-size at times, but love the size of my 3rd Gen, but don’t have kids. If I did, would scratch a mid-size off the list. There isn’t much room in those rear seats. Maybe the first couple years, would see which is easiest getting a car seat in and out. Unfortunately the answer to that question is a mini van, which isn’t cool.

Sprinter or Transit is though, that checks off a lot boxes if you need to haul people and bikes.

With America’s love affair with the pickup, you would think builders would make the garages bigger. Think they finally are, but took a couple decades. We always had large garages and shops so parking isn’t an issue for us.

Oh I hear ya, while never officially diagnosed, fairly certain I have ADD and tend to hyper focus on things, pretty sure why I post so much on here, much to the dismay of some others. Probably addicted to bullshitting, guess it beats drugs or alcohol. Ha! :D

Turbos are good on Tundra, it has that unreliable oiling issue thats causing bearing failure...so no worries on the turbo there..lol

The Outback and Forester also came with Turbo engines, the current Outback has a turbo engine once again. The Forrester is still N/A. I think one of the big differences in the Subaru models is where its built. The Foresters are built in Japan....

Vehicles lasting 20 years is not the reason people don't keep them, they last longer than that...The car buying ADD and the keeping up with the neighbors etc is a real thing and probably drives the car market more than whether they last or not.

Yep, vehicular ADD drives the majority of sales.

You can make any vehicle last as long as you want, as long as you’re willing to fix it. Just look at my 1999 Taco with all those miles, still going. Honestly if it wasn’t for my wife nagging me to get a new truck, I’d probably still be driving it. Believe she had alternative motives and wanted it for herself, and now that I bought the 3rd Gen, she keeps on suggesting that get a new new truck so she can get the ‘21. For a person who says she doesn’t give a rats ass about vehicles, do believe I am on to her. Lol!

I am a sucker for vintage, keep on looking at the Roadster shop chassis and slapping an old iron body on it. Speaking of keeping old vehicles going.

Would need a crew cab version of this.

The only logical solution is to keep your Tacoma, buy a new Tundra and also buy a new Tacoma. Then you can give us reviews and comparisons of each. :D

I get it, I have a bit of automotive ADD myself. The new vehicle pricing has put a bit of a squash on that, as much of an enthusiast as I am the prices have gotten close to even my rationalization efforts..lol.

I love vintage, and there are only a coupe of ways you could get me to spend 50K on a truck these and a restored classic is one of them. I mean...spend 50K on a restored classic truck take care of it and it still turns heads in the parking lot and brings a smile to your face. Or spend 50K on a new Tacoma and 20 years from now its just an old tacoma...lol....(or not even 20 years, just until the next gen..)

I have been going back and forth trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger and put together a vintage truck camper rig. I have been thinking abut a FWC on a vintage truck but I don't wanna spend all my time working on the truck..so a fully restored resto mod (gotta have a little comfort) could be in the cards if I decide thats the route I wanna go.

There are actually some advantages to buying/building vintage these days even if you are not paying cash...maybe even more so. The loan terms are sometimes better, the insurance is a lot of times lower, and the resale is definitely better. I really started digging into this when vehicles new and used skyrocketed and insurance rates started climbing. When you take all the factors into consideration, a high (er) dollar vintage or restoration starts to make sense.

I would pay cash and build it myself, probably wouldn’t want to daily it though for fear on some dipshit slamming into it. Almost guaranteed not to loose money on the vintage stuff if it is done right.

Even doing it all yourself, still a lot of coin to spend just to look cool, ya know. Today’s vehicles have no soul and are boring. Tacomas are a dime a dozen no matter how high the trim. Who is going to pull the most Looky-Loo’s, a Tacoma or that old Chevy…the Chevy hands down.

Would love to have an old Ford or Chevy Crew Cab with an either a FWC or polished Alaskan. But would I would be too afraid to use it, for fear of screwing it up? Probably, all the while a new truck could be had cheaper and do the same job and who cares if you screw it up, dime a dozen.

And yeah that is thing, spent decades wrenching on stuff…to the point I was just want to get in and go. Ask myself is it more about the vehicle or more about the travel??? Travel for sure.

Not sure if you have seen Trail Cap, there is a GFC version.

The Mazda cx5s have had a turbo option nearly as long as Tacomas have had a 3.5 and no notable failures are occurring through any channels I’ve seen. Equally reliable whether turbo or not

You remind me of the many members on here in 2015 predicating the mini van 3.5 would be absolutely unreliable compared to the 1gr. Here we are almost 10 years later, those folks are real quiet these days. I’m sure you will be too.

They just switched to complaining how underpowered it is, so much so that Toyota listened this go around.

Now if they would pay attention to the gas mileage threads. :) ;) By that time, probably be all BEV. Then we will totally forget about gassers.
