Thanks. I'll try that next time.

I was hoping there was a way to get a good hit of the traction motor right off the line, during immediate launch. It seemed like it was delayed quite a bit, even in Sport mode.

In other news, I now redact my earlier statement about the MAX system not doing anything. Once she kicks in, she'll strengthen those neck muscles if used daily.

Has anybody managed to fully deplete the hybrid battery while driving? I didn't see it go below 75%.

Programing should not allow that to happen in order to protect the battery. Fully depleting it will reduce it's lifespan.

I guess I meant depleted to the point where it goes into a locked-out mode until it’s recharged adequately.

Doesn't really "lock out" it just uses it less and less the lower the charge. I've never seen it under two bars even when driving up a mountain. I've only seen it full once; coasting down that same mountain for like 20 minutes.

The higher the charge level the more aggressively it uses the battery. At 2 bars, the engine didnt even shut off at stoplighits anymore but it still used some juice off the line.

    Good info, thanks.

I wonder if Toyota publishes the hybrid battery usage criteria somewhere.

20hp gain using 91 octane vs 87? Tacoma and LC engine are rated the same but LC requires premium fuel. There are at least four different specs for the 3.4T between Toyota and Lexus, if the LC 2.4T makes more power with premium fuel I would think Toyota would market it with the higher numbers.

I was doing some Wiki browsing tonight. I learned that the iForce MAX has more power and torque than some versions of the famed 454 Big Block. Who would have thought?

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
...^^^... I lived in Thailand before and those trucks were everywhere. Also, many of the Toyotas had functional hood scoops.

Giant dealerships with 23 HiLux's on the floor and 1 sedan was common.

No used vehicles there also, that is independently handled.

They must be talking about smog-era 454's, where the HP ratings tanked. The "king" of the 454's was the 1970 option code LS6, available in Chevelles and El Caminos. Its factory rating was 450 HP and 500 lb/ft torque. I can't imagine how uncontrollable an El Camino would be with that engine.

I learned the other day that as recently as 2013, Formula-1 cars were required to use 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engines, and that now they are required to use 1.6 liter V6 (those are some small cylinders--like a 250cc dirt bike).
Most powerful Formula-1 engine ever was a 4 cylinder:

(yea but could it tow a trailer :D)

    Ha, yeah.

Engines not sounding like they did when we were kids is something that we're all going to have to get used to. For better or for worse, the days of the V8 are gone and there's no turning back.

The HUD is only on the Limited and Pro models for 2024.

Oh, they didn’t have it on the TH either?? Good thing I didn’t buy one :rofl:

FWIW, only the Platinum trim of the new 4R has the HUD. That’s unacceptable lol

Only on the platinum!! WHAT??!!?? They should offer it on all models. Like make it an option for SR5s and on the higher trims make it come standard.

Heck, Ford still doesn’t offer a HUD for the Ranger Raptor. At the base price point of 55k for a mid size.. it should come standard.

I agree completely. I’ve no idea what they’re thinking with that. I saw some of the tundras it can be added as an option. My wife’s 2024 Grand Highlander has it and it’s great. I (as a potential) customer want it in whatever I might want to buy or have it as an option… which might not be anything. My 2020 Tacoma is still great.
