Quality wise ahead. Every manufacture has issues - cars break. You familiar with issues to Chevy Trucks? Engines? Top ends? Transmissions due to TC overuse? I could make a monster list of all troubles with all manufactures. Hell, I replaced over 100 head gaskets on old V6 Toyota trucks back in the day. Even more expansion valves on Camrys.

Most of the time you only hear about the broken ones. Toyota/Lexus always dominated reliability ratings prior to them being bought by the highest bidder. Ask any non-biased seasoned tech and he/she will share my sediment. But I am biased lol.

As I was following a fairly new WRX that was blowing whiffs of blue smoke today.

Shhhhhhh... Corolla's had some ring problems also early 2000's lol (as did all 2200 engines w/ valve seals in the 90's). Like I said they all have problems, but Toyota's list is much smaller than the rest. Mostly due to them being back on technology a few years. Boring interiors, less tech features, etc.. They wait until things are polished. The exception would be the Hybrid. *FYI - Toyota owns like 30% of Subaru.

We’ve owned 4 Subarus and never had any major problems. They aren’t vehicles that I would try to run to high mileage though. Get rid of them before 120K.

Tomorrow is Taco Tuesday hope we get a good teaser tomorrow. We were through our local Toyota yesterday and my GF says they should make a Pro R with the Tundra engine in it that would be cool.

    Lol!

Yeah, my ‘85 4Runner with the legendary “22R” seized at 120K miles, timing chain guide and oil pump will fail on those. The 1st Gen 5VZ-FE needs a timing belt every 90K, though mine went 435K until a head gasket failed. Can’t really complain. Currently putting a new engine in it.

While Toyota isn’t perfect, Subaru would really have something if they used Toyota engines, coupled with their symmetrical AWD.

My perfect car would be a Toyota engined, 5 Speed Manny, Suby AWD with VW styling. VWs always looked the best to me, unfortunately they are huge POS mechanically. Find Toyota’s current styling gawd awful.

LOL Good post. Yes, Subaru has the AWD drivetrain sealed up - which is why Toyota bought them in the first place - but the engines suck.
Perfect truck for me? I LOVE the GMC Denali look - give me that, Tundra hybrid drivetrain, in a TRD Pro package lol.

Toyota is the largest single shareholder in Subara at 20%.

So, getting back on topic, do we think that the 4th gen will have Symmetrical AWD...like all the Subie SUVs?

No. That would be fuel inefficient.

Thanks. That old saying if it has tits or wheels… :D

As for trucks, Ford Super Duty diesel just the way it is. Ford has the best rear cab storage with the flat floor. It is usually just me and my moto/camping gear, tend to look at storage solutions first. Though my buddy’s F350 already had the tie-rod ends fail at 30K, makes me wonder what else they cheaped out on.

I don’t know maybe, having an option to select AWD over 4WD would nice. The auto LSD works well enough for me, does have a slight delay to it though.

No tracks, but will have tandem axles. Good news, 35” tires from the factory.

The VF4AM multi-mode transfer case used in the 2003-2009 4Runner V6/Hilux Surf and 2005-2007 Sequoia is what I would probably consider to be the best transfer case Toyota has ever offered.

RWD, Torsen T3 centre diff H4, locked centre H4, locked centre L4

Aside from some form of active torque vectoring, it's pretty much every mode you'd ever want. Sad they dropped it for 2010.

Who would have thought we have so many subi fans out here. I find them to be a classic boring lesbian car. Remember the "slug bug" game? My wife and I play that when whenever we see lifted subies..

Anyhoo, Taco tuesday tomorrow.. or today if you're in Japan!

    LOL!

Tried to talk my wife into one, she said absolutely not! She is middle-aged with short hair, no way does she want to be accused of the being stereotypical middle-aged lesbo-mobile. Lol! I’d drive it…perhaps I am a lesbian trapped in a man’s body. Too bad I hate Bud Light… :D give me a McEwans Scotch Ale.

So we are putting in a new engine in my 1st Gen Taco for her to drive…chicks driving trucks is kinda hawt.

Shiiiiiiiiit all this teasing, Toyota is worse than some women. Makes me want to buy a Ferd.

    Love the styling of VWs.

Never personally owned a modern one, (air cooled yes) had a few family members and girlfriends that have. Massive POS mechanically. Aunts new Beetle, trans went out before 30K, girlfriends Jetta…too many failures to list, so frustrated with it sold at 60K, and bought a Civic. Mom had a Cabriolet that spent more time in the shop than on the road. She want to buy a Land Rover after it, told her please gawd no, buy a Toyota product. They have a RAV4 and Highlander currently.
