The offroad was always available in the Tundra's it is one of the top selling models. They say they just didn't have one built in time for the reveal. They will deff be available this fall and next spring with the hybrid.
I know we all waiting for pricing but tbh I think the Pro will be a bit out of budget for this guy so I am waiting more for the offroad hybrid or just the normal 2.4t with the manwell

The grand highlander mpgs are out. The max is much worse than the regular hybrid and about the same as the non hybrid turbo. I assume the Tacoma will come in a bit lower than 27 mpg numbers.

Gotta be because of the battery weight and all the extras inside.

Didn't think they used that heavy of a battery that the mpg would tank so much

Well plus the electric motor. It's like 650 pounds between the motor, battery, inverter, wiring.

Shame these modern Toyota hybrids don’t run in both a high efficiency hybrid mode and a performance hybrid mode with the flip of a switch.

I think fuel numbers are going to be closer to the tundra than the Highlander. 19-22

The Tundra is basically the same as a 3rd gen....I don't see them being that bad

I think that’s weight and wind resistance. They’d really have to aero those trucks out to get better numbers. 4 cyl Tacomas have always been gas hogs.

Little bit of a difference in the performance of the Highlander engines though.

Hybrid Max powertrain — 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo Hybrid MAX 16-valve D-4S injection engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i); 362 net combined hp @ 6000 rpm, 400 lb.-ft. @ 2000-3000 rpm
Gasoline engine — 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged 16-valve D-4S injection engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and Stop and Start Engine System; 265 hp @ 6000 rpm, 310 lb.-ft. @ 1700-3600 rpm
    Hybrid powertrain — 2.5-liter L4HV Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 16-valve D-4S injection engine; 245 combined net hp, 175 lb.-ft. @ 4400 rpm

TFL has a video test driving one of them and mentioned the mpgs of each. It seemed odd that the max gets so much worse mpg so I confirmed on Toyota’s website.

That would make a lot if sense. It seems crazy to lose 10 mpg just to gain more horsepower that’s not even needed for the majority of time driving.

Yeah, but the regular non-max hybrid has all those components too.

That 2.5l isn't even turbo charged and doesn't make much power, hence why the mpg is so much better. Looks like a Grand Highlander max is almost 5000 pounds. I guessing the Tacoma be lighter? Surely we could get 25mpg on the highway...

So if you added a turbo to that 2.5 engine you would lose 10 mpg? That doesn’t make much sense?

It does when you look at the numbers:

Hybrid Max powertrain — 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo Hybrid MAX 16-valve D-4S injection engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i); 362 net combined hp @ 6000 rpm, 400 lb.-ft. @ 2000-3000 rpm
Gasoline engine — 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged 16-valve D-4S injection engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and Stop and Start Engine System; 265 hp @ 6000 rpm, 310 lb.-ft. @ 1700-3600 rpm
    Hybrid powertrain — 2.5-liter L4HV Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 16-valve D-4S injection engine; 245 combined net hp, 175 lb.-ft. @ 4400 rpm

Only one of those hybrids are meant for fuel savings.

Toyota’s hybrid max configuration is designed to maximize performance while getting decent-ish mpg.

While it is not the Hybrid Max drive train (it is the Direct 4 architecture) the 400 foot pounds of torque and 28MPG is great in my wife’s RX500h. The normal RX350h has 120 less HP and gets 36MPG. I like the zoom.

In the Tacoma the Hybrid Max is about performance and competing with the turbo’d Ford/Chevy/GMC trucks.

I will never purchase another ICE-only vehicle and the iForce-Max is going to provide negligible efficiency gains over the ICE-only engine, so why would I bother getting a 4th gen Tacoma if I don't need 465 ft-lbs of torque? I think a lot of people will just skip right over Gen4 until better electrified options come along.
