That's in or before 2026. So your wait won't be long.

    BEV trucks are a novelty.

Normal buyers such as myself don’t want an electric compromise of a truck. There will be an electric version eventually for those who do

Except for the early adopters skipping generations should be the standard plan for Tacoma owners. A 3-4 yo Tacoma should take you to 2035 easy. My 2G was 10 years old when the 3G came out and it was an easy decision.

I agree with second part of that. What’s the point of a complicated hybrid if you aren’t getting any meaningful fuel savings. If it was a plug in hybrid then sure that makes sense but at this point I will stick with a full ice or go with a full electric like a Lightning.

Add in the increased cost (Tundra is wild), and it’s a non-starter. I looked for a lightly used Tundra before getting my AT4 and came up empty on something that made sense.

The lighting is trash , doesn't even get close to the numbers they advertise especially on towing

EV is half baked but most everything else is prime. Word is the 2024 F150 is styled like the Lightning which to me will prob be the best looking fill size gasser out there.

It’s so Toyota can give the truck the torque curve of a larger diesel or larger gas engine while still meeting emissions compliance. If you want good mpg and a bed then a compact truck like the maverick is a better option. Also the hybrid system is not that complex. Literally a clutch, electric motor and beefed up cooling system, a modern AT transmission has more moving parts. I think the standard iforce will be enough for most buyers. I wouldn’t mind getting 465 pound ft of torque at 1700 rpm. That’s sounds amazing compared to the 3.5, and it will still get slightly better mpg than the current gen. I don’t see an issue. No plug in hybrids exist in the class and BEV’s are still in their infancy.

They literally just released a PHEV Tundra for a huge markup that is a comfort upgrade at best. Frame rust comes later.

Cool, now cite the ultra-convenient 240 miles of range completely unladen that a $60k truck gives (Ford Lightning). A whopping 240 miles before the battery degradation sets in lol...

Want to tow something? Better not have to drive more than 2 hours round trip, because good luck finding a spot to unhook the trailer and wait for the truck to charge.
Want to do a 7 hour road trip? Enjoy adding 1.5 hours+ to charge up at very specific stops.

I could go on and continue to be off-topic, but the fact is they are a novelty that folks who rarely leave a city can take full advantage of. Maybe the 500 people who skip the 4th gen is what you meant by "a lot" but the vast majority of truck buyers do not want that.

I honestly don't know how they are going to do it better if they use a ladder frame Tacoma, there is even less frame space to cram battery packs in on these smaller trucks vs the larger Lightning.

When did that happen? I don't see it on the toyota site.

Smart buyers know the CURRENT BEV pickup limitations. Novelty is a matter of opinion.

You can get a long range XLT for around $80K. Throw in $10K of tax credits and money saved on gas and I bet the price ends up pretty close to that of the top tier 2024 Tacomas. It’s obviously not the best choice for long road trips or heavy towing but the Tacoma isn’t a great choice for those either. It’s something to think about now that the basic midsize truck has become so expensive.
