If it looked like Toyota won't go that direction with the Tacoma, that would probably be in the running for me. A PHEV midsize truck would be perfect for my use. I use a vehicle very sparingly during the week (no commute) and could get around for weeks/months never needing to use the engine if it got 40 miles or so range on the battery. But I put 20K plus on the truck a year traveling/fishing/etc. It would be pretty much perfect.

I highly doubt it, the manual for the Highlander with this 2.4 specifies 87 minimum.

Most turbocharged cars that aren’t performance or luxury based are not designed around higher octane. I wonder if an aftermarket 93 octane tune could see a nice power bump on these

Are they making the extended cab available in the higher trims with rear coil setups? I would love a trd off-road extended cab with the benefits of the linked rear. Also is the spring under leafs only offered on the prerunner? It would cool to get a spring under Sr5.

No rear coil springs for the Xtra cabs, I believe

That’s too bad. Hopefully the price reflects it. Makes sense they wanted to cut cost considering they sell far fewer ACLB models. I love the utility of the 6ft bed but want the ride quality and better articulation offered by the coil setup. Maybe a DCLB, but that’s a long wheelbase considering the 4th gen got longer.

Yeah, a bummer but it makes sense I guess. Also, I don't think the 4th gen is getting longer. In the videos they made a point mention that the length did not change so that it can still fit into a garage. The 4th gen is getting wider though, and a bit taller.

+10000000000 for the Steven Wright reference. "I was on a bus and I started talking to this blond Chinese girl and she said, 'Hello,' and I said, 'Hello, isn't it an amazing day?' And she said, 'Yes, I guess.' And I said, 'What do you mean, "I guess"?' And she said, 'Well, things haven't been going too well for me lately.' I said, 'Why?' She said, 'I can't tell you. I don't even know you.' And I said, 'Yeah, but sometimes it's good to tell your problems to a total stranger on a bus.' And she said, 'Well, I've just come back from my analyst and he's still unable to help me.' And I said, 'What's the problem?' And she said, 'I'm a nymphomaniac, and I only get turned on by Jewish cowboys.' Then she said, 'By the way, my name is Diane.' And I said, 'Hello, Diane, I'm Bucky Goldstein."

LOL! Steven Wright is one of my all time favorites. Don’t think some of the younger fellas on here got it.

Was trying to find a video clip so there was better context, but couldn’t.

    found it! In this bit.

You need to watch some videos . They did share a lot of this info. Extra cab is gone and only the prerunner will have from the sounds of it . Sheldon the engineer was interviewed by the tfl guys and a few other youtubers. A lot of answers in those videos

To get all you want, will have to bump up to a Tundra. Think of the Tundra Double Cab 6.5’ bed is the new ACLB now, since it is no longer available in the Tacoma. Get the linked rear suspension, and has the same wheelbase as the 4th Gen DCLB, just a touch longer over-all, bumper to bumper. Rear seat legroom is similar to the Tacoma DC too.

Bumping up to the Tundra isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.

At least Toyota didn’t screw the pooch on the new Tacoma like they did with the tundra. I absolutely can’t stand the new tundra. It’s a fugly abomination lol

I actually like it. Wasn't a fan of the previous body styles as much, and I came from a 1st gen Tundra. But, I like more modern looking vehicles.

It is starting to grow on me. Was at the dealer the other day getting my 30K service done, was there for 3 hours crawling all over the Tundras. Love the interior, super comfortable, well laid out. Sure the grill is a bit of an abomination, but I spend waaay more time on the inside (to the tune of 20-25K miles/year) than I do outside looking at it. Side profile is better on the Tundra than the Tacoma. It is like they got the grill right on the Taco, wrong on the Tundra, flares wrong on the Taco, right on the Tundra. And the Sequoia got it all right externally, interior…the cargo space layout is horrible.

Not crazy about the rear seat storage, but if I did buy one, do a 60/40 delete. I rarely haul extra passengers other than my wife, think I have used the rear jump seats twice in the 1.5 years I have owned my 3G ACLB, only needed it for emergencies, so this would work.

Can fix the nose somewhat easily too, if it bothers you too much. It would be covered in grime and insects most of the time under my thumb. Probably not worth it for me.
