Just stop thinking about the 4th gen. You won't be able to afford it but I'll enjoy mine :canada:

Inflation aside imagine being indignant about a completely new and improved platform being more expensive than what is an essentially 17 year old platform. Especially at a time when the market is more competitive than it has ever been.

Its going to be considerably more expensive and thats just a simple fact. If you want the new platform, you'll pay for it. On the bright side, it will hold its value better than most trucks!

I don’t see why everyone says it’s going to be “considerably” more expensive. Standard operating procedure in the industry is to take the previous model year, add about $2k across the board even when a revision occurs. For example, we just bought a 2023 Pilot which is a complete redesign. The price tag was about $1500-2k more than the last gen 2022 we could have bought a few months ago. After all, they can’t price themselves out of the market segment or into a higher vehicle class.

You get what you pay for. Fully boxed frame vs shitty flexy c channel, 9.5 inch ring gears, actual truck like torque curve, 1700 pound pay load, rear coil setup, stronger brakes, a hybrid option with 200 more torque, sway bar disconnects, etc. Idk why people are surprised it cost more.

I think this is pretty much in the pocket in general. But I think the 2022 to 2023 Pilot refresh was less of a technological leap than the new Tacoma (replacing a 17-18 yo platform). And the last gen pilot sans dealer markups was a massive value compared to the competition. So there was some room even without the refresh.

Part of this too is that 24 TRD OR is looking close to the 23 pro. It doesn’t seem like your cookie cutter model anymore, but more like a higher trim. But I would be more than happy to see the increase capped at 2k.

I wonder with the higher payload if there will be a stiffer ride than the 3rd gen?
Coils springs in the rear would theoretically make for a better ride, but that is a big bump in payload.

I guess at the same time, the 1st gens had around that payload and aren't harsh riding

True, I guess I would expect the more “apples to apples trims” such as the 2.4 TRD off-road vs current 3rd gen TRD off-road to only go up a couple grand. Anything with the hybrid I would imagine will certainly command an extra $5k premium at least. As of now I’m leaning SR manual 4x4 because it will prob be closest thing to 3rd gen basic TRD OR as far as price goes. The way I look at it it’s basically just a 3rd gen setup with a better engine minus rear locker which I never use.

I was on that SR5 train until the photos of that black DC last week. Looks like it needs $2500 in wheels and tires and maybe a level off the lot. But who knows, they may have a package for the SR5 that brings the stance up to a respectable Tacoma.

I believe the 22 Tundra that switched to the same platform as the next Tacoma increased anywhere from 2 grand on the Base SR all the way up to 17 grand on the Pro.

Go test drive a Tundra, they’re niiiiiice.

Stock they did ride nice, rear springs were prone to breaking though. My TRD did, and couple of my buddies too. OME Heavies on it now, and rides like a brick.

I recently tested a '22 Tundra SR5 and really was not a fan of the ride, it was a bit jittery but the seat was the biggest issue: flat as a wood board on both the bottom and the back and about as comfortable as one too. (Maybe nicer trims are better?)
I also just tested a '23 Tacoma SR5, both the ride and the seats were more comfortable to me.

The best riding truck in the full size segment has been the coil sprung Ram for over a decade now, and they ride fantastic.

So since the Tacoma is more of a lifestyle truck than a Tundra, I feel like there is a chance for it being the most comfortable midsize.

Pro has that hybrid powertrain though which, just like the Tacoma, will make for a much wider price gap between the bottom and top trims.

(Nothing wrong with this though, just more options for all buyers)

It and the SR would def need some wheels/tires but the beautiful thing is that everyone who buys the TRD OR and above pulls theirs right off and puts them on marketplace for $500-$700. I’d prob just buy a set of 4 runner takeoffs if nothing else since they are everywhere.

I test drove an SR5 too, felt like a car to me. Thought was even smoother than my SR 3G. Though my 1G is awful, though I built it to carry weight.

Yeah the Rams ride quite well.

Those steel wheels on the SR are going to look good with some AT tires. Those might not clear the brakes on the trucks with larger rotors. I'd get a SR 4x4 XC manual if that's a thing.
