I was on that SR5 train until the photos of that black DC last week. Looks like it needs $2500 in wheels and tires and maybe a level off the lot. But who knows, they may have a package for the SR5 that brings the stance up to a respectable Tacoma.

I believe the 22 Tundra that switched to the same platform as the next Tacoma increased anywhere from 2 grand on the Base SR all the way up to 17 grand on the Pro.

Go test drive a Tundra, they’re niiiiiice.

Stock they did ride nice, rear springs were prone to breaking though. My TRD did, and couple of my buddies too. OME Heavies on it now, and rides like a brick.

I recently tested a '22 Tundra SR5 and really was not a fan of the ride, it was a bit jittery but the seat was the biggest issue: flat as a wood board on both the bottom and the back and about as comfortable as one too. (Maybe nicer trims are better?)
I also just tested a '23 Tacoma SR5, both the ride and the seats were more comfortable to me.

The best riding truck in the full size segment has been the coil sprung Ram for over a decade now, and they ride fantastic.

So since the Tacoma is more of a lifestyle truck than a Tundra, I feel like there is a chance for it being the most comfortable midsize.

Pro has that hybrid powertrain though which, just like the Tacoma, will make for a much wider price gap between the bottom and top trims.

(Nothing wrong with this though, just more options for all buyers)

It and the SR would def need some wheels/tires but the beautiful thing is that everyone who buys the TRD OR and above pulls theirs right off and puts them on marketplace for $500-$700. I’d prob just buy a set of 4 runner takeoffs if nothing else since they are everywhere.

I test drove an SR5 too, felt like a car to me. Thought was even smoother than my SR 3G. Though my 1G is awful, though I built it to carry weight.

Yeah the Rams ride quite well.

Those steel wheels on the SR are going to look good with some AT tires. Those might not clear the brakes on the trucks with larger rotors. I'd get a SR 4x4 XC manual if that's a thing.

I would like an offroad solar octane with a manual and leather seats if there is a big jump in price. If not I would probably get another Pro Terra

Also on Youtube the past few days there has been a lot posted of the Toyota Stout, Ford Maverick competitor. I know there hasn't been anything Toyota has said so far but it does intrigue me.

Hopefully Toyota will introduce something based on the rav4s tnga platform and hybrid powertrain. The Ford Maverick would be ideal for me but I just can't convince myself to buy a Ford.

Shouldn't be hard for Toyota to match my current payload of 1000# and if they can get me somewhere north of 4k towing, I would be very interested in a Maverick competitor.

Getting 40 mpg would be nice. Or make it a plug in like the rav and it would be golden.

Don't get me wrong I love my Tacoma but honestly I don't use it for work, I don't do any towing, I do like sitting up high as I have had a few back surgeries and really don't need a real truck. The kids hockey bags get put in the back. Like Willie2 said I would never buy a Ford but would be very interested in a Toyota Maverick

See, I do use my Taco for work and completely get the gist of your post. I tow frequently, but not heavy, 4k would be my max. I do mostly around town stop and go and the 13-15 MPG avg per tank I get from my Taco gets old quickly.

As a service truck that does mostly in town stops, a hybrid little pick up is right up my alley. I had very high hopes that the little van revolution from about 5 years ago was gonna be great, but they have all petered out and I am back to a small truck I guess.

You're using a manual Pro as a towing work truck? I guess if you get to write a significant portion off your taxes, why not. Seems like a lower trim would be more prudent.

I'm likely going to downsize my trim next time around, if I ever buy another truck. An SR5 would be fine with me. I decided the leather the Tacoma's use is kinda sucky so I could have gone a MUCH cheaper route.

A friend of mine has a Maverick. He loves his.

I would like to see one but Toyota has so much on the go in the next few years. There could be more than this just can't think of any with 10 min of work left.
    24 Tacoma
    25 4 Runner possible
    24 Camry I think is a redesign
    25 Rav4 redesign
25 86 is supposed to be all Toyota
    26 New Supra
Corolla will be due soon for a redesign
    24 Land cruiser
26 could be a new mr2 or Celica from what I have read

I’m wondering about executive decisions on the 4Runner. Partially because some of the men at the top of Toyota have been replaced.

Instead of releasing 4Runner news, they instead start marketing much more expensive Lexus GX 550, and the Land Cruiser.

    WTF?

    I blame Mike Sweers.

4Runner will likely be a Gen4 Tacoma converted into an SUV, like the Sequoia/Tundra. Essentially it’ll be a Hilux-Fortuner-Tacoma-4Runner relationship. Shared platform, parts, drivetrains, suspension, maybe even interior, which hopefully keeps the prices in relative check for all of them. That also allows Toyota to position 4R neatly below Land Cruiser.

Converting the 4Runner into a Bronco-Wrangler (Brangler?) would require a massive re-engineering effort while alienating a significant portion of their existing customer base. More likely in a few years we may see the FJ-type EV that they’ve already hinted. If/when they decide to make a real Jeep competitor with removable top, we’ll know b/c we’ll spot plenty of the mules out there.

The real question 4Runner fans might want to ask is where will it be built. Parts sharing, exchange rates, brand new factory, all make a great business case for Baja or Guanajuato.
