Since the Bronco shares the same platform, I would guess the Ranger would follow suit.

Is the Nissan even relevant? They are like the Dodge of the Japanese manufacturers.

    Soon…

yeah looks all staged to me to create “excitement” though the Tacoma does need some refining. The rumors sure have peaked my interest. This might be the first time I would consider trading in early instead of driving it until the wheels fall off.

I think the Nissan will be very relevant in a couple of years for those who want a "classic" type of midsize truck.

I parked next to one at the grocery store yesterday, it's not a bad looking truck. I just don't care for Nissan and their quality, especially for what they go for nowadays. Been there, done that.

Maybe I will feel different when I am shopping in a couple of years though.

It is the reliability is my concern. Buddy of mine is service manager, said what ever you do, don’t buy a Nissan. Good to about 100K and that is it. They are better looking than a Tacoma, imo. Bought the Toyota for what is underneath and not how the sheet metal is bent.
They never seem to get it right. Specs were “ok”, and that thing is hard to look at. That and no one really wanted a heavy half.

If ford can put a V6tt in the ranger, I don’t understand why Toyota can’t put the tundra’s detuned V6TT in the Tacoma as some sort of halo model. especially since all the body-on-frame vehicles share the same platform. That won’t sell?

let’s be honest here. The Tacoma, Hilux, Prado and 4Runner carry the Toyota brand as their Flagship “cool” vehicles across the entire world.

im going to pay very close attention to how they treat the launch of these next vehicles because that will tell me everything there is to know about Toyota’s current design/marketing philosophy.

That’s going to be nearly impossible for a new mid-size truck after the next gen launches.

regulations aren’t going to allow for it.

It must be hard being a Toyota engineer, but I will let you know what they are thinking based on focus groups

Trucks have to look tough and manly. They have to look something military grade/military spec.
People like suspension lifts, big tires, tall trucks that tower over traffic, they also hate climbing into them and hate crappy rough ride and squeaky suspension. They also expect it to handle like a Porsche on the Nümburgring.
People love a truck that can outrun a sports car but still get great gas mileage.
Everybody says they buy a truck for doing stuff around the house, which includes getting some landscape tile, two by fours, and a gas grill at Home Depot once during the lifetime of the vehicle. They want a big bed, but they also want lots of passenger space for their family of six, they also don’t like a long truck that is a bitch to park.
It absolutely positively needs to be 4x4 with locking everything, even if those buttons are covered in dust for the life of the vehicle.
Turbos are cool. Ford has turbos. What’s a Turbo again? It boosts something. We need those.
Tech is cool. They want keyless entry, remote start, Bluetooth, Apple play, Apple TV, radio, satellite, GPS lane departure, auto pilot. They want it to essentially be a Tesla. And it should also be able to stop itself and look at blind spots while doing truck things.
The number of households with a 12 ton trailer is amazing. Therefore you need every single trailering feature and sway control imaginable as well as 15 different trailer wiring connections.
Oh, and we need something that makes the most annoying sound to remind you not to leave your child in the backseat, except that’s not a child, that’s just a bag of your stuff.

The Sequioa in the lead, and that trek past those Rangers kind of seemed fake, that Subaru or what ever it was in the begining was suspiciously placed exiting the gas station.

Can't be easy to figure out what Tacoma buyers want from a truck.

This afternoon I saw a Tesla with an e-bike hanging of the rear bumper.

That is an easy one for me, HiLux Chassis, diesel, manny trans…with a Tacoma body slapped on it.

While I would probably buy two of those, Toyota doesn’t listen to these opinions because you and I are not the “typical” buyer.

I’m just hoping my SR utility package still comes in.

I believe this is partly true. They have certain real world testing they need to do, but no question that you wouldn't see the truck if they didn't want you to see the truck. There's likely nothing even close to the final product under the heavy padding.

Nissan gave TFL a quote (which doesn't eliminate this possiblity entirely) which was that the redesigned Frontier has brought new attention to the Titan and it continues to remain a part of their lineup for 2022 and beyond. They didn't specify how far "beyond" extends.
