It's a shame Zero motorcycles are so expensive. I travel about 15 miles at most a day total for work and local shopping.

Thank God that thing has ventilated disc brakes. Could you imagine how dangerous it would be without them?

Tacomas don't need rear disk brakes but eBike that goes 25mph does.

Turbo debate is slightly more entertaining than arguing oil change intervals.

If you believe that we’re in a new, enlightened turbo age, buy it, and later on share your 100-200-300k flawless-mile tales.

If not, drive it like a rental car, dump it at 59,999 miles, and let it be someone else’s headache. Or just buy the V6 while you can.

Regardless of what camp you fall into, at least hard pass on the 2.4T, hang out a while, and go straight to the hybrid.

There is no debate, it's been settled. Turbo charged engines are more complex than engines with out turbos.

Diesels have been using turbos for a long time and nobody complains about them being less reliable. Yes, diesels are different than gas engines you say. The fuel is more efficient and they run cooler which is a better environment for the turbo to live in.

But the iForce max has a 14:1 compression ratio. That will help reduce EGT and make the turbo run cooler. Early gas engines (that are the result of most of the bad turbo rap) had CRs of around 8-10:1.

Also, I'm sure improvements in bearing metallurgy, synthetic oils, and oil filters will increase turbo longevity.

14.1 ? I don't think turbos need that much compression ratio. I think the Tundra is about 10.?:1 which would allow the use of 91 or less octane gas.

Looks like the T24A is only 11:1. I was looking at the wrong column.

It's because it's a Manley diesel not a 4 cylinder toy engine. That's why no one complains lol

And modern vehicles in general are more complex than older vehicles, while being more reliable

I have no reservations buying a turbo and/or hybrid from Toyota.

I'm sure there are differences between Diesel and Gas engines that technically make the diesel more reliable when turbocharged and I don't believe turbos themselves are reliable (200k+ parts), but I'm pretty sure the engineers can engineer an engine to work with a turbo just fine. For the turbo going bad at X amount of miles, I don't really see it as any different than any other maintenance part. It's just like swapping out a timing belt at 100k or changing spark plugs or a battery on a hybrid. Just more expensive.

When turbos do go, what usually happens? A bearing goes, I'd venture to guess?

Oh yeah no, I’m not against them at all. I’ve got several family members with high mileage turbocharged cars and trucks. I just need to see if the mpg improvements are worth the trade
