There is a chance it could come out as a gasser as well . Who knows what they have hiding from us lol

 

IMO the success of the Maverick proves there is a market for a compact truck like this.

 

Ya I don't mind the small bed, perfect for gas cans, smelly football/hockey gear or anything else I don't want smelling up my interior. And it hauls 2 dirtbikes.

 

I like using my back up camera in the bush lol can't when the TG is down

Yeah but was it the compactness or the price that really sold it? Granted it does 80% of what normal people would do with a truck but no denying that the price is attractive for a lot of people.

 

It is likely both. I know at least one person that can afford either one that selected the Maverick after comparing both taking into account their needs. I believe in his case the deciding factor was that the Maverick has a hybrid available at a decent price.

That changes now with the 2024 but not the decent price as the hybrid will likely be on expensive trims.

If your not a truck person and find yourself in need of a vehicle with a utility bed at at good price, the Maverick and others like it are hard to beat, I think Toyota will really do well in that segment once they throw their hat into the ring, it's a hot category and I can only see it getting hotter as the midsize and 1/2 ton trucks climb in price.

That's a good point. Both probably factored into the success.

 

Will the mini Toyota truck be as successful with its much higher “Toyota tax” price? I think a lot of older people buy the Maverick because it’s cheap just like how a lot of elderly drive minivans.

 

If Toyota builds that truck and keeps the entry price under or right at 25K it will sell like gang busters. The Mavericks starting price is 23,400 but I bet most of them sell for close to 30K by the time options are added. The Santa Cruz starts at 26,650 so I bet Toyota could push it close to 28/29 with no issue.

 

Do you honestly think an EV truck will sell that cheap?

 

Toyota's first BEV the bZ4X starts at $42K. The EPU will be at least mid 40s.

 

MSRP for a well loaded Ford Maverick Lariat hybrid is $39k. Assuming you can get it at MSRP. Greedy dealers are all around.

 

Truck prices are insane. $150K for that one Raptor WTF?

 

It isn’t just trucks.

 

Just because they showed the concept of the EV doesn't mean it will be an EV at release, sure they will probably have an EV version, but they could very likely have a Hybrid or other variant as well kinda like the competition. I fully expect Ford to electrify or do a PHEV with the Maverick in a couple of years, Toyota is probably aware as well and knows where it has to land to play in this category.

 

There ya go, it gives even more room on the pricing. They just have to have the starting price competitive and never actually build that package like they often do..lol
