Go test one out. They’re nice. We’ve had 4 Subarus. My wife loved her last Lesbaru which was a Forester XT.

Kind of in the same boat. Love my ACLB. The ability to sleep in the back and carry my dirt bike in the bed with the tailgate up made it an easy choice. I am thinking of just going full dclb this time. More storage for gear and now I can bring friends and family along without feeling bad for them haha. I think a 2 inch lift and at minimum 33’s will be necessary to maintain the capabilities I have now, luckily Toyota made that easier this time around. Full size rigs are still to wide for many of the trails I hit and I don’t need the towing capacity or cab space.

Buddy of mine has an Outback Wilderness, I really like it other than all the plastic cladding. Dunno the wife doesn’t want to get anything other than a Toyota. Had a RAV4 TRD as loner for a week, I liked that too. Little doofy looking, but what isn’t these days. Looks wise, like Volvos the best, especially the V90 Cross Country, but don’t want to spend that much on a run around vehicle. Their gas mileage (25) is sorta dismal anyways.

New Tundra got dinged for lack of space as well in the videos I saw. Not sure how it has shaken out in the real world though.

I’ve always liked Subarus but have found their quality to be a little iffy compared to Toyota and Honda. Had a lot of problems with the Impreza and outback I owned. That being said their AWD is so good and they are relatively affordable.

The extra space in the cab wouldn’t be a bad thing either, prefer the AC, but oh well.

Thinking the same, 2” lift with 33s, possibly 34s would be the cat’s meow.

Looking at the Tundras for the towing and a bit extra bed space, all depends on what size travel trailer she wants.

Yup. Not something you want to keep to high mileage. Trade in before 120K or so and you should be fine. Their AWD is amazing. If they made a midsize truck it would be awesome.

I find the under seat storage to be adequate. Not great, but it highlights why losing any of it matters to some of us.

I dig more power, I have never had a problem with the rear end that was more than a leak, boxed frame won't matter on a truck with 6k towing capacity, and I put 33's on already with no issues. Sway bar disco is great though.

So I really am interested in more power and the headlight leveling gizmo since I tow a ton and my headlights being adjusted from the driver's seat sounds like a dream.

I find the c channel frame to be a little too flexy at the rear of the truck. Even with bed stiffeners my my bed has flexed so much off-roading that there are noticeable gaps between the tailgate and bedsides. Part of that is probably the weak stock leaf spring hangers but I’m hoping it gives the vehicle a more solid feeling off-road and in general like I have noticed in other rigs. Payload is nice too. Never had a problem with my diffs and I’ve spent a lot of time dicking around with the open diffs off-road before I installed lockers. Guessing the larger diff will help with the 465 pound ft of torque offered in the hybrid though.

Because we are nice people and deserve the best? :canada:

Note however that both Toyota and Ford (in the Tacoma and Ranger) do not offer 2WD in the Great White North, so there are some other differences in what we get and what y'all do.

Well I'd rather have a long box DC off road instead of the sport we get up here

I thought I had seen the new ranger would have a 6 foot bed, but have since seen only these little dinky 5 foot beds. Anyone heard any different? That 2.7 TT in a Ranger would SCOOT!

There was some talk of the Super Cab was coming at a later date, not sure if that is true. If it does that might lure me to Ford since Toyota axed the Access Cab. Of course my wife will tell me to stick with Toyota’s, she is probably right.

I'm wondering, now that I'm reading the comparisons between our neighbors available trim levels and capabilities.... It seems that I've read that the 6 foot bed on a double cab is a bit more rare down here in the US?

I'm thinking I'll be staying in the SR5 trim level, so I did a search for a '23 SR5, double cab, 4wd, 6cyl and in a 100mile radius it dropped from over 99 available down to like 25 when I selected a 6 foot bed. damn I hate waiting to find out...

BWAHAHAHA and THEN I unchecked sales pending and in transit and it dropped to ZERO...

Said long ago that the all the mechanical improvements were fantastic, yet the body styling and storage solutions were questionable. Getting rid of the Access Cab was a bad move, took a great utilitarian cab and made it less useful. Even my wife said “why in the hell did they do that!? Love those doors over fighting stuff in and out of our 1st Gen extra cab” Safety regs supposedly, yet somehow Ford still has those clamshell doors in their F-Series trucks.

Storage cubbies aside, they even screwed up how the rear seats lay down. Doesn’t go fully flat anymore, and have carpet backing instead of plastic. Then there are guys complaining about the legroom, right TRD Thang? the whole rear passenger area is a bit of a mess. Typical Toyota, excels in a few areas and fails elsewhere. Of course you can’t please everyone and there will be compromises.

    I agree 100%.

    Except this:
"Getting rid of the Access Cab was a bad move..."

You're being very polite here lol. Almost too polite.

I was looking to go from my DCSB to possibly an AC this time around since my boy is big enough to ride up front and I use my truck for work.

Reaching around through the front doors to get stuff in the back is just inconvenient as hell. Neat the seat folds flat, but it would be even neater with a tiny door that opened instead. I do think the xtra cab looks good from the outside though. I'll look at one, but it would have to be some amazing offer for me to buy one and I doubt those type of things still exist.

Well there is a thread dedicated to the new Xtra Cab and AC, and I wasn’t as polite. Lately I am trying not to be such a grumpy old man. ;)

Was helping my wife put some boxes in the old extra cab, (she didn’t want them in the bed since the topper leaks) which reminded me how much that sucks.

So next truck is either a DCLB Taco or the Tundra. Not a huge deal, probably could use the extra space anyways as I tend to run out of room in my current ACLB.
