You went from no GXs to two GXs in one week?

I only found one using cars.com on a nationwide search. I think it only came with some special outdoors type package. In the pics I've seen they are sharp.

All the ones I’ve found have black wheels which is probably why I like them. Prefer black interior though. Have a black lab that thinks the cars are hers and insists on going everywhere. Here’s the one that went up $3,000 in a day.

Three days. Traded Tacoma for pearl white/black on Wednesday. The black interior was a compromise with the wife, I wanted red and she talked me into black. I should have recognized what was coming. Wife promptly claimed new GX.

I still wanted one for myself, so I did a new search and located a few silver/red GXs in the region. Same high-volume dealer in Lexington KY flexed their pricing muscles and I bought the one I originally wanted. They said they would be happy to deliver this one to me for free if I wanted. I might do that since it's 2.5 hours one-way from here. They have to check when they have a delivery slot available if they bring it here. If I go get it I can have it Tuesday morning.

Looks like it's the "Black LIne Special Edition". Comes with some off-road oriented features I would never use and it's missing a lot of the things I liked. It's cool looking in that green for sure.

Ours are both the "Sport Premium Package with Captain's Chairs." They have gun metal grey 19" wheels that are pretty sharp and a bunch of other features we wanted. Heated rear seats, third row climate control, power up and down third-row seats, etc. The heated rear seats and separate climate control were nice for when my 88 year old mom is on board. Another reason to go with the GXs is they have big handles that are very handy for my mom to get in and out. Took her for a ride Thursday and she grabbed the handle and hopped in before I could even help her.

Everything is kinda up in the air right now, no real concrete plan. Pretty much what she decides on. Might be full time on the road, so bigger is better, ie TT and 1 ton truck. Or might stay where we are and have a home base, then do an only few months on the road at a time, so smaller TT or truck camper or even a van, go back and forth on what that is exactly. The other thought is a piece a property with a sorta tiny house on it, 1000ish sq/ft made out of containers. That is close to trails, like ride out the back door sorta thing. The camp setup I have now would be fine, basically just a week/weekender.

Always wanted an Alaskan so there is that, price-wise could get an Airsteam Bambi and have more room, and still have that vintage feel. Such a sucker for that stuff. Do like the inTech campers, they just came out with the “Forge” a lot cheaper than an Alaskan or Airstream, heck of a lot more practical too, plus cheaper. https://intech.com/rv/models/flyer/forge/

Can be pulled with a 1/2 Ton, wouldn’t be as nervous dragging it down dirt roads as I would the Airstream. Kinda all over the map and I joke my wife has a hard time making up her mind. lol!

Maybe you’re supposed to close your eyes and envision Ricardo Montalban is giving you a back rub, while sitting in rich corinthian leather…

When I bought my Tacoma in 2011 a 4x4 Tacoma could be bought for about the same price as a Camry. In 2024 a Tacoma starts at $15K more. What changed?

They don't make a base model single cab with only 159 HP like they did back then.
A 4x4 2024 Tacoma starts at $8k more than a base model Camry, not $15k more.

What else happened is that consumers have demanded increasingly nicer vehicles (as they always have) and the truck as we know it has been evolving into something just as capable but far more refined than it ever was. That is why the sticker price of any truck these days is eye-watering

My father-in-law seems to have good luck with them. Gets an easy 250-300K out of the 5.3s, he used to drive cross the country for work in them.

    as they say ymmv.

Seems like can’t win for loosing these days, no matter the manufacturer they are all expensive junk depending on who you ask. ;)

Nah, I got your point. It’s why I included the part about whatabouting your way into nihilism. There are tens of thousands of emissions sources. They’re all drops in the bucket. But if you work on them, you eventually see results.

“but the military has diesel trucks!” is not a reason that a society shouldn’t care about Cummins intentionally defeating emissions controls. We can, and should care about both. The fact that we currently don’t care about one doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about another. Big problems require big and long solutions that don’t all happen at the same time.

Perhaps I should have provided a little more specific information. 2024 Canadian lowest price or value leader Tacoma is 15 K more than a Camry. I only picked the Camry because I remember it was 4k more than the extended cab 2wd taco I bought back then. The relatively spartan US 2024 2wd Tacoma is still 5k more than the 2024 Camry. No doubt the trucks are nicer now but so are cars. i don't think that tells the whole story.

Still missed it, it wasn’t about the government having diesel.

That is the thing when it really comes down to it no one really cares, or care at least enough to actually do something about it.

Still not getting it. Nor do I care to explain it to you.

You don’t understand why a person cross shops different platforms, highly doubt you get what I originally posted.
