100K/year yeah pretty rare. I am averaging 20K, even that is not very common. We really won’t know if this new gen is going to be any good for at least 5 years. Assuming it will be, also guessing there are going to be some teething issues like the Tundra.

We should start taking bets how long he keeps it. After his wife pops out that baby, I give it two months before he trades in on a Tundra Crew Max Pro.

Lot's of talk here about the GM twins, but the new Ranger intrigues me. Supposedly available with the 2.7 V6 EcoBoost and a redesigned bed that will fit a sheet of plywood between the wheel boxes.

I've driven that 2.7 and really liked the power delivery. My buddy owns an F-150 with it and loves it. The 2.7 mated with the 10 speed is the standard drivetrain for the F-150 platform and has proven to be very reliable from what I've heard.

They didn't. The ZR2 I spec'd was $51,130 in 2023 and is now $51,230 in 2024. The ZR2 had no changes to the packaging, so it's the closest YOY comparison. The mid trims like the Trail Boss and Z71 changed a bit, standardizing on the larger screen and the highest output engine, and there was a price bump there, but definitely not a price hike.

A few of our friends have Broncos with the 2.7 and love the engine. One caution: Ford uses a belt to drive the oil pump, and it's submerged in engine oil. Be careful what kind of oil you choose, change it frequently, and consider replacing the belt at 100K. Ford doesn't list belt replacement on the maintenance schedule, but I saw a tear-down video of one at 100K and the belt was cracked.

A loaded 2024 Ranger Lariat is around $52,000. It seems Ford and GM have their trucks priced a few thousand less than the Tacoma. All of them are too highly priced in my opinion.

    @Turd Ferguson

I had to think about this last night before answering, lol.

IMO, one should set aside 2.5% of his or her weekly gross pay into a dedicated new vehicle account. When there's enough money in that account to buy what you want (and most likely need, by that time), you buy it. This is what I'm doing. I may not be Rockefeller, but my financial self is in order and I "don't owe shit to no chump, not nowhere, not no how".

Can you point to anything showing they aren’t reliable? No one has stated any actual problems just feelings. My Tacoma has been pretty reliable but still had its share of problems. One big one from new is the engine can’t run on regular gas without knocking. It’s had an ECU flash which helped a tiny bit but still needs mid grade gas for life. The rear diff fluid leaked into the brake drum and the diff was nearly empty. The front wheel bearings were junk by 100K. A ball joint went which requires the control arm to be replaced and since the alignment tabs were seized they had to be cut off and replaced. That’s a great design. The other side is seized and can’t be aligned. The engine also eats spark plug electrodes every 30K. Yeah Toyota.

    2.5% of $100K/yr is $2,500/yr. for a $50K Tacoma I would have to save for 20 years?

My bet is he’s out of the new Taco by July. That is if he even buys it in the first place. What are his thoughts on buying it today? :D

I was thinking the same thing. By the time you save up enough for that $50K truck it will now cost $70K.

One of the many, many illustrations as to why $250k/year is the new $100k/year.

In case you're wondering, no, I do not make $250k.

You can't even build a 2024 on the configurator yet, starting for a 2023 is 47k in the US . I guarantee the 2024 went up. Not much but it did. Not sure how a zr2 is cheaper , I just built the one I would want and it's 60k before tax lol

I'm not sure why you cannot find the 2024 but it's on their website. Ask and you shall receive!

It works fine here in America. I just built a 24 Trail Boss with a bunch of add ons for $40K.

We are talking about the zr2 pricing not the trail boss
Show me your options as chevy doesn't make most of what the Tacoma gives you as standard.

That work truck looks like the best deal, turbo max available at $35K, Toyota doesn’t offer that.

Drove my last truck for 20 years. You can save that money up faster than that though, all depends on how you live. Don’t have to use your day job earnings either, other ways to make money on the side. Like having real state rentals. Let other people save the money for you. Then there is the profit to be had when you sell them without having to work much at all.

Yah but that 2013 was 28k out the door with Toyota Financial running between 0.00% - 0.09% APR.

It came with ATRAC, 9 cupholders for 2 passengers, clamshell doors, a six-speed MT, and a 6’ bed.

We used to be a proper country.
