Use mine daily, doesn’t feel flimsy though. Maybe the smaller cab has something to do with it. Have it setup for hauling stuff, never had any trouble in tight parking spaces getting stuff in and out. Usually at the post office a few times a week shipping boxes out. Find it easier tossing stuff in the cab, rather than fumbling with keys to get into the topper.

Don’t haul people so no need for rear seats. If I would happen to get a DC, would do a rear seat delete. Don’t care about crash test either, ride motorcycles surprised I have lived this long. :)

That would be awesome if it had 4 wheel drive, a MT, and the clamshell doors, but unfortunately it has none of them.

I had a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab with the clamshell doors. It was a pain in the ass putting groceries in the back seat with those damn doors. Vowed to never own another with that arrangement. I traded if for a 2010 F-150 Super Crew and never looked back.

I was blissfully unaware (pre-Internet). Head gaskets failed twice on my 3.0. Once under warranty and again out of warranty. Toyota and the dealership fixed them both times at no charge to me. Owned that truck for 14 years with no other issues with amazing re-sale. Drove it all over the PNW, Western Alberta, The Yukon and Alaska. Even towed a 12' Travel Trailer to Yukon/Alaska and back. slid off the road once on a mountain pass as well. Truck and us survived that. Endless hiking and camping trips. Was a great little truck for 2 people. Never left us stranded. Was very well dealer/ trusted mechanic maintained and totally stock except for a canopy and a boat rack.

So glad there was really no TW or forums that I could stressed over back then. Who would of thunk I would be able to get all of that out of Toyota's worst engine? Since then it's just got even better and better since that 3.0. Also, my 3rd gen has had no issues after 3 years. Makes me chuckle quite often with some of the gripes posted on here.

Despite the shitty quality the bailout was required because they broke themselves buying back their own shares and giving themselves enormous compensation packages. No, they never payed back the entire 50 billion either......

Toyota is pretty good about taking care of things when there are known mistakes.

All the repairs I have done over the years, never tried to warranty them, just thought stuff wears out, and then you fix it, we always bought used and didn’t know any different. When the 22RE seized in my ‘85 4Runner, wasn’t happy about it, however still was shocked it went to 125K, because our ‘76 Ford had 3 engines in it before 100K. So I searched junk yards for a replacement, $900 later fixed. Can’t really do that for as cheap now-a-days. That replacement engine had the crank bearings go out and oil pump issues. And that was Toyota’s legendary engine, drove that vehicle hard though. Sold it at 225K miles, because I needed a truck, hauling firewood/dirt/gravel in a 4Runner wasn’t ideal…

Do remember we didn’t nit pick as much back then (pre-internet) we just got in and drove, put gas in it, and fixed things when they fail. The internet has become the garage to hang out and BS, and a platform to bitch and bitch and bitch… (guess it beats working to our full potential at the jay-o-bee ;))

Owned one myself, first piece of chevy garbage that I owned. Gave them another chance on a 2500 HD 2006 which it too was a piece of shit.

I simply have more confidence with my personal experience with Toyotas. I'll never waste my money on a GM product again, 3 times is not the charm.

yeah not happy about that, why I have been looking at other brands, question is did Toyota piss me off enough to make the jump. If Ford and GM didn’t discontinue theirs too, the decision would be easier. Why I have been looking at full-sizes. Still can get in the clamshell doors in the Ford F-Series. Could always keep my current for 20+ years like did the ‘99 at least that was the original plan.

I don’t have that problem, not sure why people do, absolutely love it for getting groceries. Maybe the people who have a hard time parking a full-size, can’t grasp the concept of clamshell doors either??? :p :D

Yep, even though my Toyotas have given me trouble over the years…not sure I could buy a GM. At least the Toyota has great resale value even with their flaws.

Toyota is far from perfect. The latest generation Tundra and Rav4 hybrid have certainly had their share of embarrassing failures and the gap between Toyota and "domestics" is not very wide, IMO. That said, if I needed (and could afford) a midsize truck next month it would probably be the new Tacoma.

Why do you care about resale if you are keeping your trucks for 20 years?
I have never cared about resale value on anything. I may keep it forever, a tree may fall on it, who knows. I’m not making a decision on what I’m buying and driving now because of how much I may sell it for years from now.

The one place that can help during long term ownership was if it got totalled in an accident as the insurance payout would be better.

If I lived in the desert where things didn’t rust I would keep vehicles forever.

I don’t really, just one of the talking points. Do have random people coming up to me offering to buy my 1st Gen. Don’t think you get that with Chevys or Ford’s of the same era.

Mentioned that the ‘99 might be up for sale to the service manager at the dealer, he ask me to give him first dibs, so there is that. Only reason I am looking is because my wife wants the 3rd Gen, she is the one pushing me to get a new(er) truck. Don’t really need or want one honestly. :)

That was nice about living in AZ, the rubber bits and paint do get baked though. We are now in high desert, do get a little bit of snow, and they do use salt brine on the roads. Definitely not as bad as back East. Just a handful of weeks or days in all reality. Had a small storm the other day, it melted off by evening, all dry out there now. Washed the truck last night to get the brine off, should be good for a few weeks now, that is unless I decide to go up into the mountains to go Nordic skiing.
