Can we talk through this a little. Size wise, I love the tacoma because the DCSB will fit practically anywhere if you live near a city. I have specifically avoided a full sized pickup for this reason. The new 2022 Tundra is 233.6" long, compared to a 3rd gen DCSB which is 212.3" long. For further comparison the 2nd gen DCSB is 208.1" long.

If the trucks are on the same platform, do we think the DCSB will get even longer? wider? Concerned that following the tundra means a big leap in overall size.

The most exciting part of the 4th gen taco is seeing what they are going to do with the powertrain. Seems likely they will do two turbo models, right? a 4 and a 6?

100% agree on size. My 2020 DCSB is as long as I want to go. I can't imagine trying to park in the City Garages with an additional 2 ft of truck.

These platforms are scalable for length and width as I understand it. The Tacoma will remain a "midsize" and I would not expect it to grow much vs. the 3rd gen. But that's just my own speculation. I'm sure Carmaker1 can explain platform sharing much better than that for us.

The Frontier uses the Titan platform too so l would not worry too much about the Tacoma growing.

Here is a video on someone who has the latest predictions on the next gen tacoma who seems to be pretty credible.

    https://youtu.be/H0P8lhIVEkk

Here is a video of the of the 2022 lexus nx 350 first drive with the 2.8L turbo 4 which is rumored to be used in the 4th gen tacoma.

There are time stamps in the video so you can fast forward to the mechanical impressions at 4:53 or driving impressions at 8:09 mark.

If my taco was 2" taller it would scrap my garage door. Lifted bois are parking in the driveway :D

Cool video on the 2.8L I4. Should be really effective to tune. An off-the-shelf tune should net 50hp/75tq give or take as well. In some ways, the 4th gen could be where modders want the smaller engine, if the bigger engine is still naturally aspirated. If both are turbos, it comes down to reliability. Both are going to make great power.

I wonder if there are any other vehicle applications using the 2.4 turbo other than the lexus nx350. The hp torque numbers look promising, 275ish hp (although it's a little less than the current tacoma) 317 lb ft torque (quite an improvement over current gen at lower rpm), I just wonder how the long term reliability of this engine would be. It's not like the current gen where the 3.5 is used in a bunch of other applications...we shall see.

Judging by those lights and assuming the fairly obvious following in the tundras footsteps for a redesign, no way in hell I'd own one. Actually the reason I got a 22 now. I saw the tundra and hated it, then saw the nascar version and though about the Tacoma. I wanted to get a good looking truck while they still offered it. Not something like looks like a RAV4 with a bed or a GMC with whatever the fuck you call that front end...

2.5 L Hybrid package out of the suv line for light duty use and fuel efficiency and a 4cyl turbo for heavy off road and towing duty would be great! My next truck is going to be a hybrid and hopefully Toyota will introduce one shortly.

I'm taller and fatter than the CDC "average American male" and I have zero issues getting in and out of my '21 Tacoma. It doesn't require any special technique or moving the steering wheel. :hungry:

I'm 5'9 212lbs with a 33" waist and let me tell you, gen 2 taco (DCSB, stock, meaty 30.5" tires) is the perfect sized truck for me. I have to slightly step up into it, but I cant imagine stepping down into a truck. plenty of legroom, headrom and elbow room.

I worked with a guy in the late 80s that was bigger than that and he had a Plymouth Horizon and a little Honda motorcycle.

Leer shell, Bilstein 5100 shocks, AAL in rear (2 inch lift), 16" Method 305NV wheels, 285-75-r16 Cooper Discoverer AT3/XLT; grab handle on driver side so I can ACTUALLY GET IN AND OUT WITHOUT RUINING MY LEATHER SEATS lol
Okay im 6'0 250 but my taco has the sunroof so I think that's my issue with the height. The rest of the truck fits fine but I feel like if I was even 1 inch taller I'd be hitting the liner on every bump!
