I don’t doubt a 4cyl turbo option, on the base tacos but I have a feeling we’ll hope for a turbo 6 and get an NA6 in upgraded models

I leased my 3rd gen because I wasn’t sure I wanted a pickup at first- my dealer has already said when my lease is up jan23, I can be in on the very first TRD order they can do and keep mine until it comes in - likely fall of 23. Buying that one for sure

Trend these days seem to be turbo charged 4 cyl. engines. |Also likely to see a hybrid version using Toyotas existing 2.5L atkinson hybrid package. No more sixes.

I'd really be interested in a Tacoma Hybrid now. Of course after a few years to work possible bugs out. Reality is, I'll likely have to wait 2-3 years for that scenario.

This is it in my opinion 99.9% is true
@Carmaker1 posted on VW forum, it is sad that VW guys have more love and respect about cars/ trucks than tw.

"920B Tacoma is indeed being developed with both I4s and a Dynamic Force V6 engine. The threat of our P703N with its twin-turbo V6 range, has Toyota not handicapping their best seller. It's gonna be a big batttttle between the two! Toyota is going all out on the next Tacoma, as expected. Tundra just seems to be more a preview of that vehicle, more than anything

A return to order is probably instore before anyone sees a new Tacoma, this is going to be a 100% new truck for Toyota. I still don't think there is going to be a 6th gen 4Runner available in the US.

Where is Toyota going to build this new Tacoma? and where are they going to get materials to build with?

    I don't work for Toyota
But 10 years ago you can question about the materials in Toyota productions system
But now in 2022 believe me they have the materials they need

I sure hope his information concerning the Dynamic Force V6 is correct. Even better if hybridized. If they go I4-turbo I'll just keep what I got for as long as I can.

What is the dynamic force v6 engine? Is that the same engine used in the tundra?

    Any more photos or renderings?

Glad that hybrid isnt killing the love for most of you.

Id be okay with a inline 4 hybrid if it had the hp/torque/mpg 2024 deserves.
300hp/torque and 30 mpg should be possible, but how much would it cost?

Im not an engineer but I imagine a constantly variable transmission (CVT) running for cruising speeds with a 4cyl and variable pitch turbine turbos.

When their is a call for torque (climbing a hill or towing/hauling from a stop) an electric motor comes in and makes up the difference needed.

I drive my tacoma with no load 90% of the time and id venture to guess “most” the pickups on the road do not have a load in them. This scenario is when MPG is the most important.

again not an engineer: id imagine you would be loosing capacity/mpg range as soon as you start hauling. Id imagine people would be okay with this trade.

(maybe this is the wrong thread)

CVT could be a deal breaker for me.

cvt would be horrible if it was the only drive system - it robs all the available torque. If electric motors drove the power during acceleration would you feel different?

Have you driven a Toyota with the 2.5 L hybrid package such as rav4, Highlander, Sienna and Venza? They come with a 2.5 L Atkinson engine coupled to a power split unit (CVT) that produces 219 to 302 HP depending on model. Ample torque and excellent fuel economy. Other than reduced towing capacity, it would be an ideal power plant for the Tacoma.

So what's the guess on the 4th Gen engine? I'm guessing it'll be a T27A-FTS. Happy Friday!

If it hasn’t been said before, it’ll have a lit of tundra accents.
It’s going to go for a more sharp edges in the design.

i also predict the tail lights will wrap and extend to a point towards the front.

Genuinely curious as to why you think a Toyota NA V6 would trump a Toyota I4 turbo? The turbo 4's scoot.. I occasionally drive a 2D Bronco and it flat out flies compared to my Taco.

Personally I'd love to see the I4 turbo make it in all trims except the Pro trim which would have the Tundra's V6TT. Very doubtful it'll happen but a man can dream. :D

Full disclosure: I'd probably still cheap out and get the SR5.. we'll see!
