I screwed up and didn't buy a 1st Gen 25yrs ago. Took me a while to make up for that. Could have saved a ton of money. Oh well.

Kinda cool seeing the evolution of the platform without even realizing it. Only didn’t have was the original pickup and the 2nd Gen Taco.

That was the other thing I didn’t like about the Ranger felt lost with the controls, Toyota has had the same basic layout for decades, my hands fell naturally into place.

I was going to buy a Ranger last year, the only reason I didn't was I wanted the rear seat delete, and that one didn't have vinyl flooring.

    I liked the seating position.

I'm considering ordering a 2023, while it still has a manual parking break. I guessing even the XL will have the electronic parking brake on the new model.

Somebody had a supercab, in solid Cactus Gray outside my house last week that was a good looking Ranger, yeah the front end is kinda weird.

As much as I like the 3rd gen Tacoma, the STX FX4 Ranger comes in somewhere around 8K less than a TRD OR AC, no LED headlights, but I won't have to remove the rearseat myself.

Plus I'd have to spend another 10k on the Tacoma to get it to where I want, and that's just Toyota parts for an or road truck.

Saw this and thought of you. Not bad looking, seems to be about the size of a 80s F150…which isn’t a bad size of truck. Has a vague appearance of those 80s square body Fords too.

..and we're not getting it due to the EPA fleet standards. Of course those of us that typically drive around with 2 or fewer people in the truck would benefit from having this model available (less weight means better MPG) but BIG GOVERNMENT in all it's wisdom regulates us out of regular cab trucks.

    Yeah their standards seem wacky.

It is too bad they quit making the Tundra single cab, has about the same amount of room as an access cab Tacoma, could of really used an 8’ bed too. Guess I could of hunted a used one down, but wanted new. So I supplement the taco with an 8’ utility trailer.

High school buddy had the same configuration, lifted it on 36s…with a 4” straight pipe exhaust out of school bus. Sounded mean! They were farm boys, that truck got used and abused!

Getting way off topic, buuuuut. Stumbled on this awhile back.cool story, and the guys stonework is amazing.

So…why don’t they skin the test mule with third-gen sheet metal? Seems like that would be a good way to go stealth. And it would give some chop shop operator a fun time cutting and pasting one together. Just thinking out loud here.

Path of least resistance. Probably easier to shoehorn the 2022 Tundra body than a 2022 Tacoma body on the 4th gen Tacoma frame. They may also be able to use more off-the-shelf Tundra interior bits with the 4th gen's electrical system.

When they did the 2G body on the 3G chassis…it more or less bolted right on. 3JOH22A is probably right, completely new chassis wouldn’t of been easy.

Toyota intros new 2.5L I4 Hybrid and a 2.4L I4 Turbo hybrid MAX engines for use in their 'CROWN' cars. Suspicion is these are the new Tacoma, 4Runner engines. 38 mpg on both engines

One possible outcome is the NA hybrid is on most trims, while you have to shell out an extra $10k+ for the TRD Pro to get the turbo hybrid...
