I am not positive. I thought they were made by AISIN. Headquartered in Japan, but the plant is in Thailand.

4th gen is dope. Day by day I’m figuring out what more mods to do for the truck as I have no problems internally or externally. It’s a luxury type off road truck for me as it has every possible package included that makes it comfortable and fun driving

The 23 F-150 is the least recalled vehicle I have had. I believe it's an outlier.

According to the parts content stickers the transmission is made in Japan. It is possible however that there are parts in the transmission from Thailand.

It's probably a cost cutting measure to outsource to Thailand. I can't recall where Toyota trucks for Thailand are manufactured. Trucks look to be popular there.

They probably look like a nightmare on wheels when your job is to work on them. The 21 was the most recalled vehicle that cancels it out. I had a legacy that didn't have any recalls, my Tacoma only had the catalytic converter replacement recall, and frame inspection. I can't recall too many recalls with any vehicles. The Legacy and F-150s are the only vehicles I have had with infotainment, and saftey systems.

I'm trying to figure this out and especially from my hands on and ownership experience with generations of the mid-sized Toyotas since 1990s...

    1) What is it that you like about prior generation less comfort, less power, more noise and significantly poorer crash ratings? Especially when gen 4 also has new features and improved manners?
    2) Against another 150,000+ unit seller the F-150 with a few significant recalls - engine, steering, windshield not properly bonded to vehicle the Tacoma recall for only a small number with incorrect sticker looks pretty good. With 170,000+ 2024s already sold the year's totals will be higher. How is the ball dropped here? From a data and industry history standpoint the general lack of problems against sales volume makes it an industry wide leader.

I only saw the bad, day in & day out, everyday...
I had no choice but to buy a tacoma, I dont know, what I dont know...
    helps me sleep at night...
Only vehicle that was consistently bullet proof was the mustang...
The f150, the 2.7l, the 3.5l, all the complexity, turbos, 80 feet of timing chains, 200 intake & exhaust valves, the variable cam timing, etc....
turned into more anxiety & headaches more than anything else..
    It was all garbage...
made me a killing though & was a good trade for not having a college degree...
Its just crazy how advanced things have gotten & nothing is easy anymore..
I wasnt the weatherstrip, cup holder & spark plug mechanic...
I did all the complex engine repairs, internal engine noise & compression failures, coolant / oil leaks, overheat issues, exhaust work, manual transmissions, broken bolts, didn't matter who broke them, they all came to me....
glad its in the rear view mirror now, but they call me weekly begging for me to come back & just train the upcoming freshmeat....
Seems like multi-tasking & juggling 20-30 jobs at a time is difficult for some these days...

You are setting the bar too high. The moment I get an error message on my 4G screen I'm going to be that much more disappointed.

    I'm guessing some sarcasm here.

After no longer being tied to the auto industry or firms that supported or supplied them I moved to vehicles with top reputations and top scores where it is measured well or consistently. Even Toyota and Subaru models considered legendary for reliability had imperfections occur. A window of time moved errors that used to be seen with a shop or pro tool or combos of flashing dashboard lights to dashboard screens with more info.

Careful comparisons, testing, and doing those considerations over time made it hard to not chose my long bed OR model. A Nissan that can have 6 ft bed was not a good choice against a 4th gen Tacoma. Though popular, all the 5 and 5.5 ft beds other mid-size and full-size models have are no good for a lot of us. My biggest gripe was how many long bed models were stocked in other regions.

By the logic of a turbo failing, the same can be said about a head gasket or any other extremely involved job to fix. One could argue that on a v6 you have twice the amount of components that can fail raising the probability of a component failure, plus a v6 is much harder to work on due to how cramped it is in the engine bay. The turbocharger on the 4th gen is reasonably accessible for replacement without dismantling to much of the engine bay

I found the driver side back spark plug a bitch to get to in the 3G. All the plugs in the 4G are just screaming to get taken out. Just my observation.

The fact that current production trucks don’t really have any issues that you’re talking about, and early production trucks that did got fixed under warranty?

Who cares about actual, verifiable data? Much easier to sh1tpost and talk about “muh feelz” (I fully understand that if the problem is on your truck then it 100% sucks, not 0.001% sucks. But if that’s your threshold then you probably don’t get out of bed because of all the scary stuff outside.)
