    Hello folks,

New to the forum. Apologies if this has already been discussed.

Any predictions for the towing and payload capacity of the upcoming 4th gen Tacoma?

Around 9100 and 1500 would be sweet!

    Thanks,
    Ted

There's a thread on 4th gen speculations. However, I wouldn't bet on 9100 considering the current highest tow rating on a mid-size is around 7800 and that's with a diesel. You need more weight to a truck to get that kind of capability. The rumors also suggest it'll have a turbo 4 cylinder and/or a hybrid turbo 4 cylinder.

    Welcome to TW!

Hey there! Thanks for the welcome. I posted there first. Figured I'd also ask those paying more attention to the towing Forum. Great points. Thank you!

Why do people consistently want to push a midsized (which used to be considered small) truck into a full sized diesel? Maybe the question should be, when will Toyota come out with a dually to compete with the American trucks?

The Tacoma just like the Ranger and others have slowly turned into full size trucks. Personally I was hoping they would stop sizing up and keep the Tacoma simple and "midsized".

    It's a secret
4th Gen Taco will be able to tow a motherfucking space shuttle like her big Tundra sister!!!!

Edit: It will be able to tow a motherfucking space shuttle ONCE, for a distance of 7.62 inches...until the engine blows.

Because why wouldn't anyone want what they feel is best for them? Admittedly, something that's best for one person will never be best for everyone.
Isn't the best selling vehicle segment in NA the crossover? Why do so many people now feel that a sedan just won't cut it?
You need and want a midsized truck, good for you.
I could use the smallest truck that will safely tow my next trailer because it'll be my daily driver so fuel economy and ease of finding a decent parking space in the parkade at work are important, plus my wife already hates when she has to drive our Tacoma.
The Hilux is a midsized truck. Surely, you agree that it's more capable than the Tacoma. Am I wrong to hope that the 4th gen Tacoma will come with Hilux or better capabilities?
Guess some would say yes. Weird

I mean, no you're not wrong about the Hilux but it really sounds like you need a Tundra. I see you want a small vehicle to pull large loads but I honestly don't see the Tacoma ever being offered in diesel like the Hilux either. So maybe Toyota should (in your eyes) offer diesel in the US?

I've seen many folks who pull larger loads bitch about not being able to use the Tundra and have had to trade in because of the diesel aspect and I don't know why Toyota has offered diesel for many many years now everywhere else can't offer it here.

YES, and here in Canada also. But sadly, it'll never happen.

    I'd love a diesel Tacoma/Hilux or Tundra.

I know what I need. I'm considering the 2.5 and 3rd gen Tundra, Rivian R1T and some domestic trucks (diesel and gas). However, I absolutely love our Tacoma and was just wondering what folks thought the 4th gen would have for capacities.

It's because of US laws and the EPA. The cost and and time required to get a diesel powerplant approved in the US isn't worth it for Toyota. They just sell them anywhere the laws aren't as stringent and make all there money there.

Makes sense but with Toyota's ideology of long term investment goals I think there would be plenty of money to be had.

I assume they've done several cost benefit analysis and concluded that it just wasn't worth it. If I recall, Mike Sweers was interviewed about the 2022 Tundra and said it can take over 3 years to get approval. And I also notice that other diesel powerplants are disappearing (Titan, Canyon, Colorado).

With this new "environmentally friendly" agenda being pushed lately, it doesn't surprise me they would try to stop a lot going on. Ford already has that garbage E-F150.

It can be very unnerving to hear what some of the scientists are saying about this planet. And nobody likes to be told what to do.
It's completely understandable that people need time to absorb new information and process it in their own way.

What is it that you don't like about the F150 Lightning exactly? I just wish it had more range.

We disagree on the science already so, unfortunately this thread will go off the rails very quickly and I'll just leave it here. Respectfully.

Honestly, I sure hope it doesn't. You and I are just two people. Just because you feel we don't agree, all is not lost. Society progresses when those that feel they don't agree can openly share their opinions.

I whole heartedly agree. I just don't want to get going on this thread and take it off the rails.
