Bullcrap... Accessories can double the MSRP of a base vehicle. And it's the add-ons that depreciate fastest. You can't find a base truck on a car lot because most people aren't willing to wait and they use the argument about depreciation successfully with people that don't bother to think... and that means they make more money.

60/70K for a truck that's not full size and capable of full size work is crazy. These are 30K trucks with 30K of garbage meant to jack the price. And the accessories are often easily added for less money. I bought a former city utility truck that had everything I wanted except cruise control... and it literally cost $15 for the stem and took me about an hour to install it... with a coffee break.

People that buy loaded trucks are getting reamed and don't even know it. And then they brag about what a good deal they are getting when they only pay 10K over MSRP.

Yeh typical whiners who want the features and more simplicity at the same time while they also want the hauling and payload of a full sized truck in a mid sized truck and more power all for the same price as the previous model year.

people are complaining about MSRP, not just dealer markups.

    Yeah.
Yeah, MSRP on a TRD Pro back in 2018 was around $45k. The Fox suspension and leather interior were probably the most expensive differences above other trims, and it was worth the premium to me considering I paid under MSRP. That $45k adjusted for inflation is about $55k, but the new Pro starts at $65k. That is a bit too much of a price increase -- I'm not sure what I would be getting for that additional $10k that is actually worth it.

Accessoires aren't "doubling the cost". No where near it....

Most 4th gens I see for sale have maybe a few grand worth of add ons.

only things i can think of

    1. new engine (4runner, LC250, see note)
    2. new trans (4runner, LC250, see note)
    3. new hybrid system (4runner, LC250, see note)
    4. new frame/body (4runner, LC250, see note)

note : but the cost increase should be way lower since your ROI is actually spread across 4-5 different models for the TGNA frame besides the tacoma, as for the other major parts, its spread across 3 model instead of a unique model like the old gens

    Yeah.
Previous models all had an engine, transmission, and frame - the fact that they are "new" shouldn't add that much additional cost. The biggest difference is the hybrid system, which I guess explains some of it. I think I'd stick to the non-hybrid Off Road trim if I needed to replace my truck today.

My last rental was an Altima with a CVT.

You'll shut your mouth and enjoy what you got, it could be worse lol.

If that's true (I haven't looked at a 2024 MSRP[or any recent years]) it's because the manufacturers are including what was once accessories in the "base" model. Hell, the first accessory on a car was probably a heater, but once they started adding them to every car they became part of the base model car. The same thing has happened with electric windows, and I suppose now automatic transmissions.

I have literally seen options that doubled the price of a vehicle. If you haven't it's because you weren't looking at the vehicles I was looking at. And because everyone falls for the "resale" bull**it the dealers/manufacturers have run with it and now it's part of the standard equipment. It's still a loaded truck with stripped trucks being sold somewhere for half the price.

I think l may have seen my first one today driving past the Toyota dealer, there was a row of Tundra's and think it was right in the middle of them.
