4WD light comes on but the 4wd won’t work. The truck will also go into lo. But I get no 4wd. The light does not flash. Any suggestions?

My driveshaft spins in 4wd but not in 2wd. The light does come on, without flashing. Even LO works, but I am confused why the fronts won’t spin. I have a J style shifter for the 4wd not the button.

Do you have manual locking hubs?

So, with hubs locked, and the J-shift in 4wd, how are you determining the 4wd doesn't work?

I pull the truck into gravel, and it will only spin the rears.

Strange. Had not seen a manual hub and j case not work in 4wd if both are engaged unless the clamshell is gutted or tcase broke.

Are you sure the hubs are in the “locked” position? Once you put the tcase into 4hi or 4lo, not neutral, the front driveshaft should only spin when the rear driveshaft spin. Maybe the cv axles are missing or the hubs are broken? In 2wd, the front driveshaft will spin freely regardless of the rear.

can you attach some pictures of your tcase, clamshell, cv tube on passenger side and hub? BTW, what year is your truck?

I’ll attach some photos after work. It’s a 1998. But the front driveshaft should spin freely even in 2hi? Also, (not very familiar with 4wd) I am sure the hubs were locked when I tested, I tested locked. But should I try and reverse with them locked or drive around a little first?
