So I have a 06 prerunner and I ran into some front suspension issues. Going to cost minimum 2k to fix everything. I was wondering how much it would cost to convert to 4x4? If I'm going to have to pay a lot to fix it just to make it driveable, might as well get my money's worth. And please don't give me the "you should trade up for a 4x4" because that isn't an option. Other than that I'm open to suggestions.

It can be done for a very reasonable price. Depends on where you source the parts and how much of the labor you are doing yourself.

I'm definitely a proponate of doing the conversion. But if you are paying for all the labor it makes it a less attractive option.

For reference, I spent $2100 on my conversion but knowing what I know now, I could do it for about $1500. I did most of the work myself though.

I'd love to do it myself, I just don't have the time or the tools to do it. If it's going to be done I'd need to take it to a shop. And I couldn't even list all of it, pretty much everything.

I vote 4x4 conversion, but how does "bad suspension" equate to over $2k in repairs? I got my lift with new uca's for less than that

i have never seen oem stuff from toyota but the aftermarket stock replacements aren't bad at all, can't imagine the quality is far off either right?

You said you're not doing the labor of a conversion. Therefore, you're wouldn't be the labor to fix the current problem either, right?

You've not answered yet what's wrong with the current suspension, and what it is that needs to be fixed. And of that, how much is labor, how much is parts. And of the parts, what kind. I mean specific brand.

What I'm getting at is we can help you figure out if your getting hosed or a square deal.

While the conversion thought is reasonable, if you're paying to have someone else source the parts and do the labor, it's going to cost a lot more than $2k.

So, do you NEED 4wd, or is that just a 'thought' as a repair path. Or do you just need a fixed 2wd truck?

We need this thread to have a poll, with at least one useless option. It is the TW way.
