255/85-16 tires, front push bar w/9000lb winch, driver and passenger windows tinted to match factory rear tint, quick at home spray on bedliner, hid's, lifted with 3"toytec rear lift kit and ome front lift, locked with powertrax, and a cb radio in place of ash tray, fog light mod, diff breather mod, greasable shackles, Home made Baja Rack, "extra" bright reverse lights. also converted to 4x4 safari snorkel
Well i am going to pick up my transmission and transfer case here shortly. i am converting my 2004 tacoma prerunner over to 4wd. i made sure to get an automatic transmission w/ manual transfer case and the trans computer to go along with it and am well aware that im gona have to shorten my rear drive shaft. i still have a few questions though.

    1. Will i be able to use auto locking hubs or can i use manual locking hubs and still throw no check engine lights.

    2. Will the final drive of this transmission be any different than my 2wd auto trans? i have look around and am struggling finding any good resources.

    3. I would like to install a powertrax no-slip in the front axle when i re-gear it to 4.56 gears to match the rear. is this a bad idea to lock the front i.e. will it cause any other parts to become a problem for breakage.

    4. will i need a different trans/transfer crossmember to make this build work?

anyone who can answer or point me in the right direction would be much appreciated!

    1) You'll need a kit like this to convert to manual hubs: http://www.offroadsolutions.com/manual_hub_conversion.html
    2) No idea. I still firmly believe the automatic transmission is the downfall of modern society.
    3) I would only recommend a selectable locker for the front. Front Locker + IFS = Easy to break CV's
    4) Don't think so. Should be the same. IIRC the transmission mount (isolator) is the same too.

Don't listen to these fools. :p

Your going to only throw a cel if you don't get a new speed sensor if the transfer case doesn't have one, or if you don't plug all the tranny plugs back in, you don't need a new computer.

You sure can put manuals up front all you need is a manual front diff, the axles, hubs and spindles it will all bolt right in and not throw any problems.

    put a selectable up front.

and yes you need a new crossmember tranny mount thing, the prerunner one is different.

I just looked at the FSM and the transmission xmember looks identical. :notsure:
The only thing that looks different is the mount to the transmission. I won't swear to it either way.

Yeah you can unbolt it and they are the same most people just swap em around as a unit, but if you find the mount it should work
