and to think about it...why would you put a ton of money into a truck youre going to be replacing in a couple years?

why not just try and live with it for now instead of throwing all that money away

find a flipped, wrecked taco with 4x4, remove everything u need, and sell the rest.. done, im sure you won't be out more than a few thousand, that is, if you do it all yourself. i would definitely convert if i had a prerunner, was out of warranty, and had another car to drive around. sounds like a fun and challenging task

I'm debating switching mine out next year (I'll just rip all my color matched parts and else back to stock) for a 4x4 trd or. however, the e-locker works a hell of a lot better off road on a prerunner than I thought possible... if you're getting stuck try getting an arb or such... might give you just what you need. (as someone else said)

    Its a bicycle.
there doesnt seem to be a great deal of cutting.
a HUGE amount of work, but it seems like most of it is bolt on.

and by most of it I mean transfer case, transmission, blah-defrikken-blah...

Just wait a while longer till some start torching their frontends for solid axles then you can buy all their old parts for relatively cheap.

    Your estimate is WAY off..

OP, A few people have done it under $1000.00. If you take the time to search out deals on the parts, it can be done cheap. The advatage of converting, is you can get a manual T-case, and parts that YOU want. A conversion shouldnt cost too much, and you can do all teh work your self, and save even more. :)

    you'd need:

    Tranny
    Transfer case
    front diff
    front shafts
rear shaft is different I think????
    transfer case linkage

I've thought about it a lot. I need to do some research about whether or not anything has to be done to the ecu.

You just have to be patient searching the junk yards

So you just randomly pulled a number out of your ass?

Rear shaft IS different, and get a manual T-case. More reliable, and no messing with the ECU.

If you are going to get a case, get one from inchworm and you can specify the gears as well.
