My manual gets about 17 with 33s. You should definitely be better (don't worry, I didn't vote :D). I'm mostly highway and keep it around 65.

Only 6 fill-ups, mostly city driving since August: so far 16.4 mpg. I guess it's pretty good and I should have expected it, but still feels rather poor compared to my 26 mpg Mazda 3 and 60 mpg Vespa...

here's a milage chart for my 2010 tacoma over the first 90 tanks of gas.
peaks generally correspond with highway driving, valleys with in-town driving.
the general decline between tanks 25-45 was due to winter driving months.

I'm mainly a city driver in my commute so my MPG's are crap. 17 mpgs at best.

I also noticed that my mpgs dropped significantly when I went up in tire size from a 245 to a 265 so that's not helping trying to turn all that extra weight.

I'm also on track with my maintenance schedule so I know its not that...

It very well could be that your mileage is just more accurate now... The trucks come with a speedometer that reads too fast. When we put a 1" taller tire on it, the speedometer is now right on. I 'lost' at least 1/2 mpg to 1 mpg when I changed tires from 265/70-16 to 265/75-16.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Driving an empty truck to the desert last Saturday... I got 95 miles on 5 gallons (3/4 tank line)... which is 19 mpg for that leg to the desert.... Around town and some highway miles: I get 14.5 to 15.5 mpg lately.

Stop and goes really eat the fuel. I rarely take long drives unless I am heavily loaded for a camping trip... so getting such good mileage last Saturday on the highway was refreshing!

The weekend's overall mileage was 16.3 mpg, as the four wheeling and low range use really sucks the gas down.

I filled up with 14.7 gallons after driving 240.2 miles. Approx. 200 of those miles was highway and 40 were dirt/ sand/ and some low range.

If I was getting 19 mpg for the 200 miles, then that was 10.5 of all the gallons. That means 4.2 gallons went into the 40 miles of four wheeling... or 9.5 mpg for that part. Now, I may have gotten less than 19 mpg for all the highway miles, which means that 4WDing was a bit better than 9.5 mpg!

For an example... lets say I was getting 18 mpg for the 200 paved miles:
I used 11.1 gallons on the highway and 3.6 gallons in 4WD (40 miles)... that means 11.1 mpg four wheeling... in high and low range. That sounds about right (10-12 mpg four wheeling) to me.

    Average 17.5 mpg.

Weekdays I commute one way in ~5-20mph traffic, and one way in ~75mph 'traffic', with some city driving in between.

David, RE: the speedo inaccuracy, does that apply to all second gens?

I'd like to put 265/75/16's on soon. I hear that should correct the difference.

Applies to ALL cars, I think... at least it seems to avoid complaints, Toyota has the speedometer say 65 when you are at 63... a little cushion. Use a GPS and check and see yourself (the GPS is accurate for speed once you are staying at the same speed for a few seconds).

My stock tires (265/70-16) had the speedometer read 2-3 mpg faster than reality at highway speed. I put on the Dynapros (265/75-16) and the GPS and and speedometer are now in sinc.

    Lucky to hit 12 mpg

If you wanted gas mileage.. Get a prius. I hate seeing all the threads about gas mileage. We have a truck and it gets decently fair mileage for towing capacity/hp.

Seriously... money doesn't grow on trees for all of us... We love our 4WD trucks, and there is nothing wrong in confirming that our 16 mpg is common or normal... or seeing if there is a way we can get 20 mpg.

Since my daily driving involves a lot of stop and go across town driving, that is what is keeping me at 15-16 mpg. As soon as I go for a highway cruise, I am at 17, 18, or 19 mpg.

My wife has an '08 Corolla and we have gotten 35+ mpg highway, but her daily driving gets 26 mpg.

I think from the wide spread of mileages reported, there is a lot of different terrain, loads carried, driving styles going on here... Ethynol in gas plays a part in the reduced mileages, too.

I have regularly gotten 19-20 mpg's and while some of my better tanks have consisted of more hwy driving, I still average 19 with city. Most of my driving is local, I drive about 11 miles one way to work m-f and a little running around town in between with shorter trips than that on average. My commute to work consists of several stops, stop signs and red lights, so I don't get a long run there. I don't drive aggressive most of the time, nice and easy, keep my distance and since getting the Taco I have been trying to get the best mpg, mostly by keeping distance and anticipating stops or slowing traffic so I can coast and stay off the brakes as much as possible. Usually have an empty bed. With all that I average 19-20 mpg's, gotten up to 21.2 as my best and that from a fairly amount of hwy miles on that tank but also was through a small mountain region, so I'm sure I could have gotten better w/o that in the equation. So I can't really say in my case that any of these factors play out. Maybe the fact that mine is a sport? Maybe the BFG's on the OR's bring them down a little? :notsure:
