YES, why would Toyota tell you to do it if it didn't work...? I posted the card above since you obviously don't have one or have read it... It tells you EXACTLY how to get into and out of H4 and L4.

I read both the manual, and the card you posted. The reason I asked about 2hi to 4hi in reverse is because the way I understood the card, going in reverse will help ship FROM 4hi to 2hi, not the otherway around. Thanks for clearing it up. Ill try that today. But again, I was under the truck yesterday with the help of Memario/Colton, and its probably something with the actuator.

So what exactly does "certified used car" mean? Is there some warranty with that or are they just certifying that ... yes in fact this is a used car? :D

If you just bought it, it seems to me that certified used car would imply that they checked it out and everything should be working properly!

Exactly. That's what I'm not too happy with. But the certified used car comes with a 100,000 miles 5 year warranty. So basically, they should cover this entirely as it is a power train issue. To be certified it must be checked and made basically like new, so I guess they rushed through this one, huh? haha.

Yah, you are right... but to stop the flashing (instruction #5-1), it says to repeat the above... You probably have a mechanical problem, but at least when you go back to the dealer, you know you have done ALL the recommended steps.

So, did you ever find out if you were stuck in 2wd or 4wd?

My light flashes like that when i try to go from 4hi to 4lo. Takes a while to get in 4lo sometimes.

Incase anybody is wondering, Toyota figured out the problem. Took it in today, they said its the 4wd CPU. They're gonna replace it at no charge to me! Should only take about an hour, but they won't get the part til mid next week.

Thanks guys for all the help.

Glad you're going to get it fixed. :yay: Was it covered under the extended warranty?

Thanks, same here! Yeah, the truck is Toyota certified used, so it is still under warranty because even though its an electrical/computer thing, its technically drive train I guess. By next week I'll finally have a fully functional truck! woo!

SOOOOOOOOOO they thought it was the 4wd CPU. Said it would be a 1 hour fix.

Been at the shop for two days. I gave them a call today after stopping in yesterday and them telling me they are still working on it.

Turns out they have NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS and why the 4wd will not engage.

None of the tech guys can figure it out and they now have to talk to somebody from California to see if they can figure out the problem.

Absolutely crazy. Got this thing certified used and literally the day I bought it had this now undiagnosable problem. I'm hoping they can fix it, otherwise I have no idea what's going to happen...

    Pretty much just venting.

What do you guys think will happen if they can't fix it???

damn man, that sucks big time. Well idk what they will do if they cant figure it out, maybe try to get you to either pay a shit ton for something they think will fix it, or try to get you into a new rig (again with cost). I hope they can figure it out soon for ya. I'd be super pissed at this point and want to start swearing at some people. :)

Sorry to hear your truck is not back to working order. I think Toyota will fix it and you may get some new parts out of it. There are only so many things that could prevent it from working right...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. I know for a fact that I will not be paying for anything. Everyone I have talked to is already embarrassed by the fact that they sold me a vehicle in this condition. I'm just worried that something will happen related to this down the line and I will not be covered anymore. I am also worried that if I take it wheeling something will happen and I will be blamed for it even though it was pre-existing.
