Never understood why adding all the needed machines for shift on the fly makes any sense. I have to deal with snow starting in Sept and ending in June. In addition a fair amount of driven off road down south needing a bit of low range 4WD now and then. I started driving 4WD system around 50 years ago when we had to slow down and get things locked up. I still use it that way. Get out, lock the hubs then sift the transfer cast while just moving. In winter I sometimes leave the hubs in lock unless I am going on a trip. If I have to deal with condition requiring the front end to be engaged I shift the transfer case long before I need it and I never shift it in over 10 mph.

The old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Manual almost always works. The only 4WD system that ever gave me trouble was my T100, the vacuum ADD system never worked properly. I put manual hubs on it and remover the vacuum ADD stuff then it always worked.

I think shift on the fly and the expense for the mechanics is a waste of money. The old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Manual always works.

Not all of us live in snow or have 4WD for snow. My primary use is for sand (beach and desert) followed by climbing rocky hills, and if there was no ADD or automatic hubs, then I would get out and lock them, like in the old days.
