You couldn't tell if 4low was working? 4lo has a very distinct feel, if you can't tell if it's in 4lo from 4hi or 2wd then there's definitely something wrong/not engaging.

You'd hear a click of it engaged. I'm leaning towards the idea that there's a system malfunction. Did you take it in the salt water at pismo?

Don't forget to let us know what they say! Too many people say "Thanks I'll let you guys know!", and never actually do. Then everyone wonders for the rest of the year what the heck was wrong with the truck.

So true! That's partly why I hate when people tell other members to just "use the search feature!". Half the time (or more) when I search for something, it just takes me to a thread where nothing has ever been answered :annoyed:

So yes, please let us know what comes of this ;)

I have read here that you can engage the 4W drive on dry pavement and even the highway when not making turns, to lubricate the components. I know the owners manual says to engage the 4Wdrive for 10 miles a month. Would this hurt the 4Wdrive components?

Not worth the risk. Turning your wheels in 4wd can and will create binding on dry, paved surfaces. Going in a perfectly straight line on a paved road may be fine, but doing that for 10 miles? Too risky. Find a gravel or dirt lot somewhere, it doesn't have to be a trail. It's better than nothing and you won't have to worry about causing any damage.

Mine in my 2006 did something similar, and I discovered that I accidentally pushed the button for the diff lock. It wouldn't go in, of course, but the 4wd indicator flashed until I figured out what it was. It flashed orange instead of the usual red on my speedo...

So your transfer case went out on a new truck? How many times have you used the 4wd?

That just seems a little ridiculous.

It won't shift into low without going into neutral. That couldn't have been the issue.
