DISCLAIMER: I've owned/built 5 Tacomas, so please refrain from any Toyota bashing, as I am a huge fan and always will be.

    Hey there TacomaWorld!

I purchased my 2016 Tacoma new and built it that day. you can see it here:

We'll, last fall, hopping on the beach, I turned my 4wd dial to 4wd, took for granted that it was engaged, and ended up stuck about a mile onto the beach. My buddy pulled me off the beach with his Tundra, I brought my truck to the dealer. The dealer replaced the front diff actuator, and I've had no problems all winter.

I live on an island, so I've just left the 2016 on the mainland for ski trips, family visits etc.. the last time I went to use my 2016, I had warning lights flashing and ultimately a message that reads "2wd-4wd mode change failure" on the dash. I wasn't trying to use 4wd, just got the message after about a mile of driving.

So, Truck is currently at the dealer. They have replaced the actuator again, ecm, and even the transfer case to no avail.

If you or anyone you know have had this issue, or any insight, feel free to post! I'll be sure to update this thread as I see progress.

Others have had issues with the actuators being bad. Most I have seen is bad actuators going from 4H to 4L.
