    Did they cover it?
I am at the dealership getting mine fixed. I'm still under warranty, and I figured that the light/actuator was clearly part of the drive train components.

Heh, I guess I will know in a few hours.

Yup. Extended warranty covered it. Cost me $100 (for deductible) it would have cost $979 at stealership.

If you are still under warranty. I’d try a different Toyota dealer.

the 2020 (3rd gen) 4wd system is a little different than the 2nd gen system, it can be diagnosed with a scan tool that can communicate with the 4wd ECU. 2nd gens had to be diagnosed with a meter and some knowledge on system operation as they had no provision to communicate with a scan tool.

The thread below in the the 3rd gen section has some info on the 3rd gen 4wd system.

That would be the easiest thing to do but most generic scanners aren't going to talk to the 4wd system.

The OP of this thread hasn't been online since 2018 so I doubt they will ever reply, you would probably get better help in the thread I posted above or by posting in the 3rd gen section of the forums.

I'm familiar with the 2nd gen (05-15) system but I have studied the 3rd gen system very little although it appears to operate very similar to the 2nd gen and should be much easier to diagnose with the correct scan tool that can can read codes and data from the 4wd system.

In any case every truck with a flashing 4wd light could be a different problem, there are some common things that fail but without proper testing the flashing 4wd light just means there's a problem with a part of the system not hey replace this part and all your problems will be solved. What fixes one truck may not fix yours and likewise what fixes yours may not fix the next one.

Good to know. Do you recommend a good reasonably priced scan tool?

It's really hard to say in the aftermarket world, what works well on one vehicle may not work well on others but the current offerings from Autel, Launch, and ThinkCar seem to have about the best coverage in the aftermarket right now.

I listed a few in the post I made in the thread below, I haven't had any opportunity to spend any time with any of my scanners on a 3rd gen truck yet so I'm not sure what coverage is like on them but 2nd gen systems are pretty much fully supported in the aftermarket mid to high end tools.

I figured it out. It was the 2wd low range mod that was trigger it. Took it out and the light went away
