If you have a differential locker I would highly recommend regularly operating that as well. It will actuate a lot faster if used frequently.

Cool landscape, but what is “thaw” ? :p

JK- I know what you’re talking about. I used to live up in the Sierra, and our cabin had a front door upstairs to use during the winter time to get in and out.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I took it up the block today in 4H, back to 2wd, turned around and headed back in 4L. I did notice quite a lurch when the 4L engaged. Is that normal? If someone was walking in front of the truck Id have definitely gotten a WTF look.

eta- I stopped, put the truck into neutral, engaged 4L and I believe when I put the truck into drive from neutral was when it lurched.

Off topic, as I was in 2wd at the time, but I went for a ride today and a couple of times when going down a hill, out of the blue the RPM's revved way up to 3k for a bit then went back down without any input from me to make it do that. Whats the deal with that?

4L requires different gears than 4Hi. That will cause a grunt. I usually travel as slow as possible when shifting into 4Lo ... stopped if possible.

If you are lucky enuf to live in SoCal like me, put it in 4x every afternoon while stuck in 5-10mph rush hour traffic. Just kidding about my daily drive. Pick up what I’m putting down and exercise those actuators regularly!

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
95% sure it is normal. The transmission on these will hunt gears and when you least expect it, it can shift up or down with any input from the driver. My 2016 has done that every day since I have owned it. The software is up to date, and no issues otherwise. In my case it typically does it on the same spots of my daily routes. Don’t even need a hill.

For example, lugging slow on the flats and I ease off the gas, and it suddenly revs up. Learned to live with. Doing it for the 5.5 years I have owned the truck.
