Have you tried driving it in reverse for a wheel roll or two until it engages?

Good luck! I tried making a case on a handful of things with Toyota concerning the Tacoma’s 4x4 abilities. They gave me the number to corporate Toyota and told me to kick rocks.

Not resolved yet. Truck only has 51,000km (32,000miles) and 3.5years old so going to try and get Toyota to fix under power train warranty. But not sure they will do anything as I’ve got off road marks all over and under my truck Some dents etc and could say it was from abuse so I know it will be a fighting match with them. Also if they find water in my actuator they will probably slap me with a bill and not cover under warranty. So I’m sceptical to even take it to a dealer. What would you do?

Wow, that’s a tough spot to be in. I mean you are doing the right thing by taking it to the dealer and seeing if they can maybe fix it. Who knows you may have good luck. However, if they do try to slap you with a bill, smile and walk away because you know dealer prices are outrageous. I would then start call local reputable family run shops and get quotes from them if I have to shell out the cash. Not sure if this helps much but I wish you the best of luck and hope it gets fixed sooner than later.

I would fire up techstream, diagnose likely problem, verify with ohmmeter, decide how to proceed.

If it was me I'd take my add actuator apart and see if it was fucked up then order the new part. For me it's not worth fuckin around at the dealer.

I don’t believe it is my add actuator as my Front drive shaft does not lock into my transfercase. I can spin my drive Shaft with my hand. Most front bad actuators I’ve read anyways the Front drive shaft will not free spin by hand but will spin when on the gas and just front diff won’t lock into 4wd. If this is wrong let me know?

I should also mention I took a look further at my transfer case today and I see almost like stress fractures on the transfer case itself. Not sure if this in normal but does not look normal. Here are few pics of what I mean. No oils leaking out but looks like little cracks in multiple locations on transfercase.1733A5FC-AFD1-4588-BA9F-241A93B6C24F.jpg

Is it an amber or green light?
Is the interval .25 second on/off or .5 second on/off?

It’s about 1/2sec maybe bit longer but definitely not .25 of a second

Mine used to do that I pulled the actuator and it was slam full of sand so I dumped the sand out greased it all up and soldered the connections on the motor. Pretty sure it was the connections. There’s a whole video about it on you tube or on here and seems to be pretty normal problem. It actually engages faster than ever before now.

A.D.D. malfunction should be a blinking (.25 second on/off) amber light or a message in the multi-display.

I missed the fact you have an Offroad. Should be a multi-display messsage for ADD malfunction.

Just because the ADD isnt engaged, doesnt mean it's not the ADD... it could be the ADD, the transfer, the wiring for either (or the 4wd switch), or the ECU realistically. The only one of these I havent actually heard of being an issue ever on the 3rd gen is the ECU. (There have been ECU suspected and replaced, but it didnt fix the problem, so Probably not the issue).

In the experience of tacomaworld, the ADD is by far the most common of these, but by no means is that guaranteed.

It sounds like you feel sure it's the transfer case, and it might be, but I dont feel like we will change your mind any more than you will change my mind (unless you do some actual troubleshooting).

I suggest you follow one of the options i gave earlier. If you arent going to do one of these, then at least film your dash to show us the blinking, AND any failure messages you get, and what you are doing to cause them.

Do you want to troubleshoot by computer, by multimeter, or by pulling parts. I really only know of these 3 to get you to a repaired truck.

I believe it's fair to say that we will 'help' you do any of these 3, but I really think you have to pick... or decide that you aren't going to be fixing it. This post below wasnt a joke, all 3can be effective.
