The electronic shift 4x4 is absolute garbage, nothing but problems since day one. Every vehicle I have ever owned with electronic shift has failed. Two Chevy 1500's, F-250 superduty, Ram Rebel, and now my Tacoma. Is it that damn hard to pull a lever that Toyota had to make the change. You want a luxury truck by a damn F-150 platinum. Toyota's are supposed to be drop dead dependable, two much bull shit on these trucks. And why does my SR have a damn back up camera.

    Ok, rant over.

My Dial 4WD selector on both my 2005 and 2010 Off Road Tacoma has never failed. The push button and lever combo selector on my 2001 also never failed.
Sounds like he needs to have it checked? The warranty on the driveline is 60,000 miles, after all.

I have not had any problems with the electronic 4X4 shifters in my 15 f150 or my 12 taco trd offroad. My old 12 f250 did have some problems but I could just lock the hubs if it screwed up.

Maybe it's a 3rd Gen issue??? Never buy the first year of a new model! I did in 2005, so I know they have bugs to get out.

I'd get it checked for sure. Just as others are saying, it works completely fine for me, no troubles at all.

Aside from that, I hit some trails a week ago.... 1st gear, manual transmisison, 4-lo....just beautiful in this truck.

F150 gave me no troubles with electronic shift. Had it for 11 years in Northeast Ohio. So far the Tacoma is smooth and trouble free.

Haha...she was running a trail race and it rained all morning. That last thing I said to her on the phone was "be careful where you park that thing". When I got there I saw her van parked on a downward slope...smh...

For your own health ie blood pressure I would buy a two wheeler next time. If the GD thing doesn;t work get it fixed under warranty. Bitching about the issue on the forum is juvenile.

As an aside mine works just fine on my 2016 TRD Sport

Purely stock.. at least for now. I would like to replace the front/rear bumper for something sturdier, also having a nice set of bolt-on frame sliders would be good to have.
    Hey Grumpy

I think i remember seeing your inferno near the post office, sexy truck! I'm picking my 2010 Taco Dbl Cab "Long'ish box" TRD Sport. How many others do you know in the area?

If he was doing any of which you speak I would not have replied as I did. He isn't and I didn't. His rant is juvenile in the extreme, more of what you expect from a 13 year old illiterate than an adult old enough to drive.

    Take Care

As sort of an aside, I finally had a reason to engage 4LO a few weekends ago, climbing at an off-road park. Probably really didn't need 4LO but I wanted to give it a shot.

Does it make sort of a "whirring" noise while engaged? Definitely louder and noticeable over 4HI. It was similar to the noise you hear when reversing in some cars...but more pronounced. Just wondering if this is normal.
